My son just got his EA acceptance to Gouher today. He was told he had a tentative scholarship of $15,000 per year. How firm do you think this is? Anyone have a sense as to how this compares with their largest scholarships or with other schools?

I have a question about this too kind of... my letter said with my credentials I could expect a $10,000 scholarship. Did they mean total? They didn't specify if that was each year or for all four years.

I looked at the letter again. It said just what yours said...my son could expect a $15,000 scholarship. No mention of per year. Anyone know the answer to this?

My girlfriend's close friend (goes to the same school) got her accecptance letter yesterday as well, however, my girlfriend has not heard anything yet( and nothing came in todays mail). weird? my girlfriends freaking out.

My D just received her acceptance packet in the mail yesterday, and the letter indicated that according to their initial review of her application materials, she was eligible to receive $10,000 for their Global Citizen Scholarship. I believe they must mean per year, according to their website info on merit scholarships. They want to receive her Midyear report, first, before sending out their official merit award letter (I confirmed this with the Dean of Admissions yesterday).

Okay, thanks Merlyinphille!

I got my packet in the mail today. :) My tentative Global Citizen Scholarship award was $12,500. I am just hoping that it doesn't go down when I get the actual award.

I suspect that the awards they mentioned will either stay the same as long as your mid-year grades are in line with your EA GPA, or the award could possibly go up if your GPA increases with the mid-year report. I can not imagine a college saying "whoops, no, we're actually offering you LESS than we said" if your grades have stayed the same or increased. What would be the point of that?

And, the awards are for each year, as long as you meet the required GPA each year (for the Global Citizen it's something like 2.75, although please double check as I may be off).

what are your stats like? $10,000, $12,000 that's a lot. I would just like to figure how much I can expect..if any.
congrats!

You can check their website, but I believe that the minimum requirements for the Global Citizen Scholarship are 3.0 GPA and at least 1100 or above on SAT (M & CR).

Taylor06, I have about a 3.6 and a 2280 (1510) SAt with 33 on the ACT and pretty good ECs (I think).

Does anyone know when they send out the confirmation letter regarding the merit scholarships?

I was wondering that too... I was admitted EA and am also waiting to hear about the global citizens scholarship... I hope it comes soon!!!

My son got a tentative $15,000 for global citizen and was then invited to apply for the Dean's scholarship (up to a full ride). he heard last week that he got $21,000/yr for that...not too bad!!! He hasn't seen Goucher yet and we are waiting for a few more schools to come in with acceptances and possible merit aid. Anyone been to Goucher (or go there)? If so, what do you think about it?

thats great, congratulations!! I went to visit Goucher this past summer, but there were no tours offered the day I went so I just had an information session. Since I was the only one there, I kind of got my own personal question and answer session. Everyone was incredibly nice! I walked around the campus, and although I did not go into any of the buildings, I got a good feel for it. It was very pretty and suprisingly country-ish, lots of grass and stone/brick buildings. It was a good size too. Unfortunately, there were no kids there since it was the summer.

My mom graduated from Goucher so I have been on the campus a few times in the last 18 years and I took an official tour last fall. It has a green campus, lots of grass and trees. The buildings are more spread out than at Wheaton(Ma) although the campuses are similar. The drive into Baltimore is about 20 minutes and you can be in downtown Towson in about 3 minutes.

I am waiting to hear Rd. Has anyone heard RD?

anyone going to the accepted student day in April?

possibly. depends on if it works with other visits yet to be planned.

My S is a senior in his last semester at Goucher--IT has been a great experience for him. We did not look at Goucher until AFTER we had rec'd admittance and financial aid. That was the reason we went and looked--and My hubby and I were hooked--my S, liked it pretty well, and was flattered by all the financial aid he rec'd. We were GLAD he picked a small school--it kept him on track, and his classes were very small--so, he had to go, if you know what I mean. The SGA has plenty of $$$--so, if you want to do something as a student group--you uusually can--(They send a United Nations delegation to Boston every year--my son went to them all! Airfare, hotel and some meals all paid for---Also, he did two great ski trips--one to Nevada, and one to Maine--and only had to pay for airfare--room lift tix, meals--all paid for) The President Sandy Unger is a great guy and very approachable. I predict that in the not too far future--it will move up several notches, and not be all that easy to get into. (His merit scholarship was JUST because of his SAT scores--I think they have changed that now.)

I am very sad that my daughter won't be attending Goucher next year (she's chosen Beloit). I have been very impressed with everything I can find out about the school (and I am a big researcher). I loved the campus from the moment we first saw it, and think the location combines the best of both worlds - the feel of being out in the country (they even have wild deer on campus) and proximity to major cities. My daughter has made the right decision for herself, but I think Goucher is a terrific school, and I plan to make sure my son takes a look when he starts looking at schools next year. The new study abroad program is just icing on the cake. I agree with the previous poster: Goucher's rep is set to rise over the next few years.

Congratulations to everyone who will be attending Goucher - and best of luck!
