D was in honors and instate. Just graduated in May. Many of the scholarships are for out of state students to bring total college costs down to be more aligned with instate tuition costs and make it more attractive and affordable to attend.
Those mentioning very high states there is a four year full tuition scholarship which is known as the scholars program. (usually the best honors college applicants) Interviews take place end of January, beginning of February and decision then made end of that month. The award pays for four years of tuition regardless of if the student is instate or out of state.
Accepted! This is my son’s top choice school so he is thrilled. We are in-state.

So I just spoke to the regular admissions office and they said if it didn’t say anything in her letter than no, she was not admitted to the Honors College. I have an e-mail into the Honors College Admissions person. Does anyone find this odd? Here are her stats:
SAT: 1540
ACT: 34 - 36 (Reading/Writing), 32 (Math)
7 AP Courses including 2 Computer Science
GPA: 3:75
NMS Commendation.
Robotics and Academic Team
Leader/Speaker’s Bureau of LGBT Youth Group
Part-time job at local store
Summer job as an Assistant Instructor at a coding camp
She was also admitted to Drexel EA w/ $30,000 in scholarship $. I find it quite odd, especially given some of the stats listed by students who have been offered admittance - not in any way to belittle anyone else’s accomplishments, it just seems that she would exceed the bar?
@CAWSLP it is not based solely on stats, the essay has A LOT to do with honors college admission. Do you know what they wrote about and how well their essay was crafted?
I agree emphasis is placed on the essay and how students make a difference in their communities. Many students that are accepted do not enroll at GMU so if you are still interested in the honors program I would relay that information (continued interest) to admissions. I believe there is an option to switch to honors after freshman year but if you can start the program from day one that would be best.
My son was admitted early action. It is his first choice and he is thrilled.

@f30bimmer Best of luck. I know several students that continued on to medical school. When the semester starts hit the ground running so that you start of with a med school worthy gpa. If you start out low it’s really hard to bring that gpa back up and you need at least a 3.7 for med school.
