EA deferred

what are the chances of an acceptance after being deferred to the RD pool? does it make any difference that i'm from england? who else got deferred.. why do u think u did?

They are very low, but try to impress the AdCom and you could just make it! Good luck :)

PS Out of curiosity, are you applying to any British schools?

yeah 6 british schools... cambridge, lse, ucl, manchester, nottingham and warwick. have u heard of any of them? how do i impress the adcom now? my counselor advised me not to send them anything else... im not sure if thats the right way to go

I've heard of all of them--and of course, Cambridge!! Who hasn't heard of it? ;) I ask because I actually applied there (applied to Emmanuel--which college did you send to?). So it's funny, how we're sort of doing mirror roles with our college applications. Let me know how Cam goes in January :)

There are many ways to impress the AdCom. Just need to show your dedication, passion, etc...

yeah but havent i already shown them my dedication and passion with my application already? i dont want to send stuff thats pointless and will waste my time and their time... i already submitted tons. the only thing i suppose i could do is get another recommendation, although i've already sent them including one from a harvard alumnus.. what do u think? i hav a feeling i may have been deferred cos they want to compare me with other applicant from england, since very few apply early. or else i jus wasnt good enough for the early pool.

i applied to downing at cambridge for law. what subject have u applied for? did u have an interview? have u applied anywhere else in england?

ahh, cool. I applied to NatSci at Emma. No interviews for US candidates, and that was my only British app :) You? Any other American unis?

no.. that was my only american app

Actually, the percentage admitted last year out of deferred was not any lower than the percentage admitted RD.

But those chances are still pretty low :p

A lot of people on CC are saying the defer to admit rate will be higher than usual this year.

PhatAlbert: Actually, it was just around 3%, while the RD rate was 5%-ish. Anyway, it always varies year to year, but you can be assured that it'll usually be at the RD rate or below that.

I have heard of all of them. The additional information to send to Harvard for the RD round would be to notify them of any awards or other significant achievements. If you win any prizes or honors at your school or in your town, make sure Harvard finds out about it right away.

Even local awards? I didn't put local/school awards even on my application.

If you win an award for being say the top math or science student in your school, I'd include it.

what about, lets say, second or third place in a particular subject?

oh wow I didn't include any of my math student of the year awards. Is it too late to include past awards? I didn't want to include like 100 awards and have the adcom skip over the important ones like Siemens and ISEF.

Put Siemens and ISEF at the top in bold. As for the others, include them if they are real legitimate honors that only one or a select few students earn. If it's an "honor" that is cheap and easy or that dozens of students get all the time, don't bother.

Yeah, good idea. I had all my awards etc. in a table and listed Siemens first with the words "3rd place in nation" in bold in the middle of some other text, then I went on with the list. All of the important things ("only student in district", "1st place in state", etc.) I bolded. Make them stand out ;)

And by the way, local/school awards, are they necessary? This is too late for Harvard but for other apps which have yet to go out, I didn't put things like "Calc Cup Champion" (which is a tournament my school's AP Calc teacher holds every year, we compete with old AP test Part II questions, lol....and I was the only junior in a bunch of seniors and I won. Score!) on my resume because they just seemed silly :p

I have the same question lol.

Also, do you all send resume/award lists to colleges? Usually I only use the 5-7 lines provided on the application.
