ubercollegeman is correct
it's not like RSI helped you get into ANY college you want. It's the people who get into RSI and their stats and achievements that can get them into ANYWHERE. Emphasizing again how hard it is to get into RSI. If you read the old CC board, you'll find that there are so many qualified people who didn't make it. WHen I was at RSI, i was amazed at the caliber of these students and how humble and talented all of them are.

I think RSI applies to Caltech too.

There's been app 4 rickoids i think, who didn't get into MIT. But think about it. THe program has been here for 20 years. Each yr, 50 domestic students, so that's 1000 rickoids. I'd say that not all of them applied to MIT, so let's make the number app 800. so 4 out of 800 is like .5%. So if my logic is not faulty (although i think it is), then the rate of rickoids getting into MIT is 99.5%. The relationship between RSI and MIT is very incestuous (lol in a metaphorical sense OF COURSE). Marilee Jones is on RSI admission committee, so is Matt Mcgann. She reads RSI applications.

so how did you get in? had you already done published research, did you have 80 Math PSATs? what's the catch (excuse my phrasing...)?

passion and committment
it wasn't my scores (SAT I:1360--PSAT:206) that got me in, although 60 of the 75 rickoids this yr got more than a 1500. About 10 got 1600. My other awards cover the flaws. And no I didn't get an 80 on the math psat.

my 1st abstract to the internationally renowned hematology journal BLOOD when I was a sophomore got denied. Oh well. I think what stood out or what got me in was that I worked 20 hrs a week in the lab ALL of my jr yr, while maintaining my high marks in academia and having a social life. I was heavily involved in student gov't, clubs, etc. I portrayed my persistence, initiative, and drive very vividly in my essays to RSI.

this rickoid thing sounds pretty cool even though i'm the complete opposite of a math/science/engineering guy.
