Hey guys, so I've often wondered why people EA/ED. I understand the difference between the two, but my question is, what's stopping someone from EA-ing to 8 reach schools and basically doing most of their application before December? How many schools are you planning to/have already done Early Action?

I was thinking of applying EA to MIT and Caltech

A lot of the Ivies have taken away their EA/ED or have some sort of Restrictive EA which eliminates the possibility of applying to a bunch. Those are just going to be my reach schools, but I’ll most likely apply EA to both Caltech and MIT like you. I’d just like to get it over with, as of now Caltech and MIT are towards the top of my list.

Some schools only accept Early Action applications if they’re the only ones getting them (like the Early Decision restriction to 1 school, but it’s not a binding contract, so it differs by school). Also, Early Action has no higher admission rate than the regular deadline, so a lot of people think they stand a better shot if they get another semester in before decisions are made. Check to see if those schools are just Early Action, or restrictive EA.

One more question- is there a list somewhere of schools that currently have the EA option? I’d like to learn more about schools with restrictive EA, too

“Can I still take the October subject tests if I’m applying for the November deadline?” --thrill3rnit3

I would recommend calling/e-mailing the school(s) you plan to apply to for EA to make sure whether or not they accept the test scores of tests taken in October.
