What is the difference between early action and early decision? Can you apply for more than one college as ED or more than one college as EA?

ED s binding, meaning you have to enroll if accepted, barring significant financial hardship
EA is not binding, meaning you get a decision early but don’t have to commit
whether you can apply to multiple depends on the school
selective choice (SCEA) means only 1 EA, but some like Uchicago and MIT are non-selective EA meaning you can apply to multiple I have heard of multiple ED but I don’t know how it would work. General advice is not to go ED if fin aid is a concern.

many schools say you can get out of ed due to lack of financial aid but im not sure exactly how that works

Awesome, thanks! I’ll have to check each school i’m applying to and see which are SCEA I guess
