Ea

Just a few Early Action questions…

If you apply EA to UChicago, can you still apply ED to another school?

How advantageous is EA at UChicago?

Thanks!

Yes

I don't really know, their EA admittance rate is a little higher than their regular-decision admittance rate (but that's probably because people who are more interested in the school apply EA). And that brings us to the fact that Chicago really likes it when applicants show a lot of interest in the school. Applying EA is a good way to do that, and it can't hurt.

The nice thing about EA is that you can know your decision earlier and if you decide to come, you get some sort of preference in dorming. Snell-Hitchcock (not for everybody, but the most sought-after dorm on campus) has almost all EA kids, and Burton-Judson, a dorm close to campus with single rooms and a dining hall attached (not to mention it's mad pretty) has majority EA kids too.

sorry to hijack, but, if you apply EA or ED will UChicago see mid senior year grades?

why wouldnt someone apply EA?

beats me, it's what I did, if for nothing else than for MANY fewer apps during RD

im gonna soound dumb saying this but im guessing RD refers to regular decision....

when u say that they acceptance rates were higher does that mean certain students on the fence are more likely to get in with EA

and also....

wats the difference betwwen EA and ED

if you apply ED then you have to go to that school if you get accepted

Not necessarily. It could be that the EA applicant pool is made up of studentswho are simply better applicants than those who make up the RD pool. It could be that the students who choose to apply EA are more likely to have Chicago as their first choice, which could boost the numbers. There are several possible reasons for the difference in admit rates, and it may or may not be easier to be accepted EA over RD.

EA is Early Action and is what Chicago uses. It is simply an earlier application period, and the result is non-binding. ED is Early Decision. If you are accepted ED, you must attend. It's a binding contract (with a few students let out a year). There is also SCEA which is Single Choice Early Action, which is non-binding like Chicago's program but limits you to only applying to one school early. With all of the early programs, you can be admitted, denied, or deferred to the regular decision round.

if ur denied in the ea round can u go RD or is that just pointless

That is not allowed. It would also be pointless. Please, Daman, try to do your own research before asking here. You can find these questions on almost any college's admissions website, college admissions guides, wikipedia, etc.
