I am so excited to finally begin my college admission process. Basically, I plan to apply early to Uconn, and should I be accepted, I will not bother applying elsewhere. In addition, I am currenly valedictorian, therefore I will likely receive a sizeable scholarship (probably full tuition), maybe even honors program. Any ways.. I would really like to receive my acceptance during christmas break, therefore I wish to apply as early as possible. When do applicants usually begin to apply to Uconn. Thank you.

rinaldoizzo,
UConn operates under early action where you apply early (the online app opens usually the first or second week of September) and find out around Christmas to mid-January in which case of a very unlikely and hypothetical rejection there is almost no time to send out app's anywhere else. So definitely 'bother' applying to other institutions.

A little advice: I applied to UConn the first day the online application opened, and was admitted around Christmas which was already after a few acceptance letters from other colleges I applied to later in September/October had arrived. Remember its a big state school with a lot of applications to sort through, and lately they've been over-admitting a lot of students, so don't expect a letter until New Years or later. Also, apply to more colleges, man. Don't get me wrong, I love UConn and couldn't be happier although UC Berkeley blew my mind the other weekend, but anyways UConn tends to be very stingy with aid, specially merit aid. Once again it's a big school and their budget just got reduced a hefty amount by the state, which means less aid to pass around. Also, it's just nice to have options and private/out of state schools are usually nice to #1's and 2's....If your SAT's were higher I'd say you were a shoe-in for UConn honors program and some merit aid, but since they're not, don't expect any more than a couple grand and rejoice at the amount of anything over that. Also, their might be a supplemental application for the nutmeg scholar or whatever they call the valedictorian/salutatorian award. Definitely fill that out otherwise you'd be cheating yourself of a full/half tuition potential scholarship. Oh, and room and board and books usually comes out to more than tuition for in-staters with a little aid, so those "tuition" only rewards are kind of evil.

Lastly, if you want, draft the essay that usually comes along with the application, I believe I had a choice between 'elaborate upon your most meaningful activity outside the classroom' and 'describe yourself, what makes you a unique applicant' and one other one I'm sure no one chose. I could be wrong, but I don't think UConn would change the essays around too often.

If I am not mistaken, all valedictorians and salutatorians who apply to Uconn receive the presidential scholarship, which grants one half to full tuition. Last year my school's valedictorian and salutatorian were given full tuition, so hopefully this trend will continue.

How is the financial aid at Uconn? Are they stingy or do they meet most applicants' need? What is the average? By the way, my father is a widowed parent.

Rriello, if you were wondering I currently attenbd Wilcox, right down the street from Platt

Thanks for the help!!
