I heard at the Honors Visitation Day the counselors said there was a possibility that the applicants who qualify for the Honors program may be notified of acceptance in December. Anyone else hear about this?

This change has been a mess...

anyone who qualifies for the honors program shouldn't be worried about acceptance

You'd think so, CM, but there have been numerous kids with honors qualifications rejected in the last few years. As I've said before I don't think that will happen this year with a single deadline, though.

maybe they meant they would be invited to apply to honors before the reg. app deadline?

I think that what it means. Last year my friend got invited by the honors college to visit the school and then he ended up getting rejected..

I sure hope this is true! It'd be nicer than the 82 days and 6 hours left until our decisions are supposed to come out...

However, I won't get my hopes up.

so, is this true at all?

Do they play the "we know we are not their first choice...." game or do they rely solely on stats?

I believe they do. Definitely showing you have an interest in actually attending the school plays a great factor in admissions. Schools strive to keep their Yield Percentage (percentage of students accepted that end up attending) high in order to make the school appear more attractive.

Interest is a big deal at UF. A majority of kids who applied after the 1st deadline last year were rejected. I found it kindof ironic that a guy who had a 900 on the SAT and a 3.0 GPA got in, while a girl who had SATs in the 1200s and a 3.4 GPA was outright rejected. Then again, the guy applied ED and for the summer term.

I guess I am glad UF got rid of ED/EA since it isn't my first choice. I do, however, feel bad for those that are set on the school. They should've kept the seperate admittance programs.

Any more updates on this possible change?
