This may be a simple question, but I've been reading EA/ED faqs and I can't find an answer so I come to you! Can you apply to the one ED school and also EA to a few schools, and if so does this hurt your chances at your ED school and/or EA school?

You can apply to only one school ED, because if you get accepted there you MUST go there, no matter what.

You can apply EA to any school you want and I don't think it hurts your chances.

You can apply to one ED school and at the same time several EA schools. As the above poster said, if you are accepted to the ED school, you must attend.

If you apply ED, you have to sign a ED contract that basically says you are not applying early to other SCEA* schools. And you would have to withdraw RD apps in case you get in ED.

*Yes, check the SCEA note below. Sorry, I forgot to clarify myself.

In general, you can apply to an ED school (which, as you know, you must attend if admitted) as well as other EA schools, but you will have to check the individual colleges' policies to be sure. For example, there are, as you probably know, the SCEA schools. Additionally, some schools, such as Georgetown EA, will allow you to apply other places EA, but no ED schools, because that clearly indicates it is not your first choice.
