Early Action and recruiting?

I am a recruited athlete for football and I have received an OV offer. “Prior to making an official visit you need to complete your application to UXXXXX. We strongly encourage you to select the “Early Action” option and submit your application by November 1st.” Since I have not decided where I want to apply/attend college how would this affect me going forward if I do apply EA? Some of the colleges I am considering have SCEA so that wouldn’t be allowed if I understand correctly?

Then don’t pick EA. You can always change to EA is you decide after the visit this is the perfect school for you.

@twoinanddone How would UXXXXX feel about that since the letter states specifically “We strongly encourage you to select the “Early Action” option…”? The OV is after the Nov. 1 date as well.

When I first read your post, I thought you were being asked to apply EA by July 1, so that’s why I said you could change from EA to RD. At this point, don’t do anything until Nov. 1 By then you may know the teams and your chances better. Are you going to other OVs before Nov 1?

You have a decision to make. Do you want to apply there EA and then not be able to apply somewhere else SCEA or ED (depending on the rules of those schools)? It is a risk. They want everyone to apply EA, that’s why they said that in the invitation. If the coach has 10 other students willing to go EA he may not care that going EA at this school will bar you from applying ED or SCEA at another school that you may like better. If he doesn’t have anyone else for your position, he may have to accept your applying RD.
