Early Action- Class of 2016

I just got a financial aid award of $40,720…does this involve loans, though?

The notice will give you the details of the award (which BTW, you don’t need to post here).

It probably does involve Federal Direct loans. Work-Study will be listed separately; this is money which you have the opportunity to earn during the year at an on-campus job. Any scholarship(s) will be listed, as well as any grant(s).

LasMa: I’m sorry, I don’t quite understand - what is the notice? When would I receive that?

Assuming that you’ll get the same notice my D does every year, it’s just a detailed list of the total aid package, so that you can see exactly how much is loans, grants, etc. It’s broken out by semester. It looks something like this:

Federal loan subsidized $$$
Federal loan unsubsidized $$$
Work study $$$
Grant $$$
Scholarship $$$
Total $$$

When D was admitted (3 years ago), we got it by mail, about 3 weeks after the admission letter came. I’m guessing that these days, the information is online. But give Admissions a call; they’ll be able to tell you how you can access it online, or if not, when the snail mail will come.

kellyr017 - did you find out your financial assistance award details yet? My D was admitted EA. On February 21 she received an email saying to check her FA details online. It reminded her about a previous email sent out on Feb 7 that included her Earlham account details.

My son was accepted Early Decision back in December–also a Presidential Scholar (I’m an alumna, so I’m thrilled!). He also got a small scholarship related to being a Quaker, and has sent in his app for the Quaker Fellows scholarship program as well (still needs to do a phone interview for that).

He also has already applied to the August Wilderness program–I’m an alumna of that as well, and highly recommend it to anyone. I couldn’t believe one could already apply! I hope we hear soon, so I can start planning my summer, as in planning when to lay in a big supply of Kleenex for my sad, sad empty-nest tears. Waaah!

They say (I think it’s on the website) that the admissions decision is by snail mail, but almost everything else is by email. There seemed to be some glitch with my son receiving his heartnet log-in info, so if you don’t get that, you might need to follow up. There are apparently all sorts of roommate, etc. questionnaires to fill out.

Laminmd, is it too forward to ask when you and your husband were there? I’m class of '82.

There is an informal Facebook Group “Earlham College Class of 2016” already in existence–not too active yet, but surely with these early action notices, there will be more folks on there!

Oh, and congrats to all the acceptances!

Cindy, as you now know I was also class of '82. Thanks for the contact info so my son can reach your son. I hope your son has a great experience at Earlham! Mike is still deciding between 4 or 5 schools. Congrats to all who have been accepted. Earlham is a warm and fuzzy place where your student will feel safe and challenged!
