I got deferred but with my test scores it’s a miracle I didn’t get denied. keeping hope tho!

Son accepted from Miami into Scholars and Honors program for computer science with full-tuition scholarship. 6.4 weighted GPA, ACT 34, SAT 2280, Math 2 - 770, Physics - 770. Lots of IB and AP with AP Scholar of Distinction. Many accomplishments in computer programming and FBLA competitions, including FBLA national first place win in Network Design. Also visited NU November 2013 and cannot underestimate how much interest that college thinks you have in them may be a factor in acceptance.

Can someone explain the achievement award? Why it only begins Sophomore year?

So many people who deserve an acceptance are getting deferred this year. Someone I know of who got accepted ED into Wharton was deferred from Northeastern and he is going ballistic trying to figure out why.

Seriously gonna cry, rejected from my first choice and then deferred from my second. I was excited about the college process but now it just seems like a dissapointment.

accepted from texas into the college of science with 15,000/yr!!

@AcceptMeOrNot Omg are we the same person? Hope to see you at the NEU accepted students day! x

@aliciaross168 Well I think if he got into Wharton he will be doing just fine!

deferred with 1800 community service hours 4.5W GPA and 30 ACT, is this the result I’m going to be getting from schools similar to NEU?

Accepted for Econs
University Honors+ Scolarship!

Hi guys, I’d just like to reiterate…being deferred won’t make you or break you! I’ve seen a few “deferred is the end of the world” and then “most deferred will get in RD”. Total guess here, I’d say maybe 1/4 of deferred students are accepted RD (for regular, not NUin). Maybe less than 1/4, but probably not more. So while you still have a very good chance, it’s not anything easy to do. Please keep in mind Northeastern is rising quickly in the ranks, so the stats will rise yearly, but also consider how ED probably affects the number of EA acceptances; they can be much pickier with all of their applicants because a chunk of seats are already taken by ED kids. It is much easier for them to wait to decide on an applicant when they can put all of the candidates in front of them, unless they can tell for sure that an EA applicant is stellar. Don’t lose hope guys!

I am honestly shocked and extremely upset that I was deferred…any ideas as to why was I deferred and is there any hope for me to get in?

@brethrenz First off, congrats on these amazing stats! Your SAT,ACT,GPA and EC’s are amazing. I’m not sure on why you were deferred. What did you think of your essay? Any idea about recos?

Don’t lose hope, just as @novafan1225 said I’m sure there is something amazing waiting for you down the line and I wish you all the best. Cheer up!

Daughter was deferred. Her scores and GPA were lower than many listed as deferred. Her saving grace is her aggressive curriculum, I believe, as she is enrolled in a full-on college program at a local community college.

Accepted! Engineering + University Honors + Dean’s Scholarship ($7000 per semester)

GPA UW ~3.8 W ~4.2
ACT 33
Great recommendations + 1 rec from international organization CEO
Lots of community service, coordinating international project
Varsity swim and tennis captain

From NJ—deferred. So pissed. Does this mean no merit scholarship money. I can’t go unless I get some money for tuition. GPA unweighted 3.9 ACT 31.

@brethrenz did you show sufficient interest or just throw an application in? They may have just thought you were using them as backup while angling for another true love.

We visited and I contacted the admissions advisor for some questions.

I’m actually more pissed than anything else that u got deferred. But, whatever, they made my life a lot easier. I was unsure where I wanted to go but I got accepted and a scholarship to a better college. So screw northeastern. Also, my grades were above what they were looking for.
