I was considering filing some early action applications but I'm not entirely sure how it works. Is there an earlier commitment date than regular admissions (May 1st) or is it the same? In other words, is there any other difference between EA and regular decision other than when you find out whether you were accepted or denied?

Thank you =]

For early action, you have until May 1st to reply, just like regular decision. The only difference is that you get a decision in December or so.

With early action, you have until May 1 to notify the college of your decision. However, some schools are single choice early action (SCEA) which means that you can only apply to one school early action (there are usually exceptions such as rolling admission schools). Make sure you read the rules for the school(s) you are applying to. If you are applying early action make sure that your testing is complete by the required dates. Don't confuse early action with early decision. Early decision is binding (must attend the school if admitted) while early action is not.

Yeah, I'm seeing lots of differences in the application process between schools. This all seems really daunting right now, I guess it's a good thing I'm starting to browse now. Thank you for your help guys, it's kind of what I thought it was like but I couldn't find any concrete information on it.
