Many schools seem to have the same early deadline for both Early Action / Decision and Honors/Merit scholarship applications. Is there an option for the student to apply for just the honors program without being considered for early action/decision? Not sure if this question even makes sense. But it seems like the student has to apply “early” if he or she wants to be considered for the honors program, even if there is no intention of applying for early action or decision. Please share your insights to clarify this. Thank you!
A lot of schools do have deadlines for consideration for honors/merit scholarship applications, but I don’t think that means you have to apply Early Decision/Early Action. So, for example, if you want to apply to your favorite school ED or SCEA that’s totally fine. You can still submit applications to other schools at any point between now and January, you just have to apply regular decision.
So on your common app account under the my colleges tab you have to fill out questions specific to each college. All of the colleges will have a question something along the lines of “preferred admission plan” and then a drop-down menu. So if one of your schools has a Dec 1st deadline for scholarship consideration but you don’t want to apply early, you just need to check off “regular decision” on the drop-down menu BUT send in the application before December 1st. I would also advise you to make an appointment with your guidance counselor if you’re confused about the common app/ universal app/ whatever you use!!
Hopefully that makes sense, good luck!
