<p>Hey guys. I've got a question about early action and priority. I guess the first question is what is the difference between those two, and the second question is what are the dates for SUNY Stony Brook? Originally, I remember reading 11/15/09 for early action for Stony Brook in my school's college program (Naviance). However, it is no longer listed there, but rather, has 12/1/09 as a priority deadline. I'm pretty sure I didn't "miss" it out, since Hofstra University, is still listed as 11/15/09 as early action. Any clarification would be nice. </p>

<p>We removed the EA option this year; just a single priority date of 12/1. You can still apply after 12/1 – officially, we’re rolling admissions – but priority will be given to those who apply before December.</p>
<p>Does “rolling basis” pretty much mean “first-come, first-serve” in terms of who applied when? I applied no more than two or three days after SBU allowed people to begin applying (August 7th to be exact). Does that mean I’ll likely be in the first wave of applicants to find out if I’ve been accepted?</p>
<p>Yes and no. Rolling means we accept applications until we’re full; we have no hard deadline.</p>
<p>Steven, you’re talking about spring 2010 for transfers, right? I don’t know what’s up with that group, as we’ve all been on the road the last month or so. You might want to call the office and ask someone to check on the status of your application.</p>

<p>I got two more questions:</p>
<p>1- I started my journey on CommonApp, and apparently, on the first “section”/page, it gives me the options to apply for Fall or Spring of 2010. However, for Fall, it only gives the Regular Decision option. I don’t know if I’m making much sense here, if not, I’ll be glad to take a picture or something. All in all, I can’t seem to apply for the priority decision. Is this supposed to be normal since it’s rolling? </p>
<p>2- I received an email from Stony Brook which talked something about a “First Priority Application”. (The words were linked to the SBU site with a few blank fields and most of them filled up with my name. It was basically this some really special application page…or is it? Haha). I’m…thinking this is because I attended a college fair thing at my local mall in Connecticut, and I filled out one of those cards. Anyways. It says that I don’t have to write an essay and some other benefits. Is this really true, or am I just gullible?</p>
<p>1 - “Priority” is just a date, not a special app. Don’t worry about it.</p>
<p>2 - It’s real. It’s a special application that we rolled out to certain parts of the country; the application process is basically the same. If you’re interested in any honors programs or anything, you’ll want to use the Common App and do it that way.</p>

Basically “priority” is just a date? as in my application is reviewed sooner than everyone else’s?
Also, do I still fill out the common application on top of the priority application?</p>
<p>yma - No, you can fill out either; doesn’t matter which you fill out. The “priority” app that we sent out to some folks across the country is just an invitation to apply; you can do either.</p>
