can you wait to decide if you want to go to that school by the normal date of reply after being accepted through normal admissions (like in may) or is there a separate date to reply to the school once accepted through early action? Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks!

Yes you may.

yes, early action and regular decision have the same date.

So if I can apply early and I don’t have to decide early, what’s the catch? It’s not binding and I get a better chance at getting in. Why wouldn’t everyone do this?

because early action pools are more challenging because alot of top notch students do it.

Oh I see. And if you don’t get in through early action you still can get through normal admissions right?

Sometimes if you don’t get in EA you can be deferred to regular decision.

Like gadad says, if you don’t get in EA you might be deferred to RD instead of just being outright rejected. You can’t submit a NEW application if you are rejected EA, though.

Yes, I think the other “catch” is that it’s due at an earlier date, however, if you’re on top of things, this isn’t a catch after all.

While you don’t have to make a decision to accept EA until the May 1 deadline, sometimes students do to take advantage of better housing options sometimes available by saying yes early to an EA.
