Early Action Question. Please help ASAP!

Hey!

I received my SAT score today and I'm not too satisfied with it. So, I plan on giving the SAT General in December again. Before I had received my score, I was planning on applying to University of Miami with Early Action. I was wondering if I should still apply to UM under Early Action and submit my December score when it comes or not apply EA at all?

And one more question, if I get rejected from the college under EA, does it still consider my application with the Regular Admission?

Thanks for your time...

When do you get the decision for early action? If it is late december, then I doubt they will be able to receive the scores in time since scores are released near the end of the month. You could also try checking the website of your school or calling/emailing admissions. And if you don’t get accepted EA, you will be either rejected or deferred to the regular applicant pool. Although I’m not sure if all schools give the deferral decision; another thing to check on the school website! :)

If you are rejected under Early Action, I don’t think you would be considered for Regular Admission. You could possibly be deferred to Regular Admission, or Waitlisted, which are different admission decisions than a rejection.

thank you!

One more question, is it advisable to give the SAT again in December? It’ll be my third attempt. I’m a senior!

Have you taken the ACT? If not, unless you have specifically been prepping for the SAT, you may want to try the ACT. But if you are not happy with your SAT score, yes, take it again, or try the ACT.

I had given the ACT last February and it didn’t work out that well for me. So I’m not too confident about giving the ACT again.

I was worried about giving the standardized test again mainly because I wanted to apply to University of Miami under Early Decision…

If I apply ED, UM won’t consider my December scores, right?

According to the website the application for EA is due on 11/1/12. Does that mean that scores and transcripts are due at that time as well? If so then EA is not an option for you.

The decision is provided in early February.

Most colleges required all college application and requirements due by the EA deadline, in this case Nov 1st. The best way to find out about U of Miami EA policy is to contact its admissions through phone or email.

Colleges will make three decisions: accept, decline, or defer to regular admissions.

Good Luck!

I’m sorry, but I have one more doubt…

University of Florida (UF) has its regular application deadline as Nov. 1st… I’m applying there as well. If I give the SAT again in December, will UF consider the Dec score I get?

Thanks for all the help :)

paduap, you need to be looking at the Admission websites of the schools you are applying to for the information. Many of us parents who have been through this process with our children created spreadsheets to keep track of all the various deadlines and requirements. There can be a lot to keep track of, and you don’t want to jeopardize your admission by missing deadlines.

According to the University of Florida’s undergraduate admissions information for freshman, it says the deadline for the Office of Admissions to receive SAT/ACT scores from the testing agency is December. It also says although the application is due November 1, test scores can be received after Nov. 1.
