I'm taking the December ACT (the situation applies to the SAT as well), and will send them to my Regular Decision colleges.

But should I email my Early School and tell that I'm taking the December ACT? I already sent the app, and I know they don't look at scores later than October. But would they consider it, just in case I get deferred?

Early Action/Decision colleges usually send out decisions about mid-December which means essentially all decisions are made by several days to a week before that. For those, sending the December test scores cannot help as to EA because the scores cannot possibly get to them before the decisions are finalized. Simply informing the early school that you are taking the December test also has no impact on EA -- they rely on tests before December and they are not going to delay the decision as to you just because you may be taking the December test. It also will not have any impact if the EA decision as to you is between reject and defer which are based on the info they already have not on speculation as to whether you might do better on a test for which they have no score. If deferred EA, you can submit the score as it will be considered during the regular admission process.
