I heard that applying EA does not actually increase your chances of being accpted at Gtown? Anyone know anything about that....true...false?

its pretty much true

yep it's true

The acceptance rates are about the same for EA and RD. However, if you apply EA, you are either accepted or deferred. If you are deferred, your application gets completely re-reviewed with the RD applicant pool, so you basically have two chances to get in if you apply EA.

jangle86 makes a good point...think about it with actual numbers. Say 5000 people apply EA and 22% are accepted- that means 78% are deferred and re-reviewed. Of those 3900 people who are deferred, an additional 15% will be accepted. That means that of the 5000 original people, some 1685 will be accepted. 1685/5000= 33.7% And even if my numbers aren't exactly right, you get the idea.

Are you allowed to apply EA to Gtown and ED to another school?

no............................................

no, but you can apply EA to multiple schools if they allow it. Georgetown, at least last year, was not single-choice EA.

it's actually harder to get in EA...they accept only the people they are absolutely positive they would accept in any other circumstances...I talked to my interviewer about it after I had been accepted.

If you can apply EA though, I would definately suggest it. You have more time to appeal the decision if they decide to defer you and if you get in, it makes life easier. If your still not sure what school you want to go to yet, you have a good 5 mths to make your decision.

How to you appeal a decision at GU?

If you're rejected shrudder you really can't do anything about that. But if you're waitlisted or defered, I would definately consider any unique aspect of your life, personal or academic, that you might have missed in your application, or at least highlight something that you're really crazy about and mail in a letter of rec. or something that declares why Georgetown would be woefully lacking without you and why you would be completely crushed without Gtown. It has more weight then you'd think it would, esp. if you're on WL. One of my friends was waitlisted, and I wrote a sincere letter of rec. for him. However, don't annoy the admin office with annoying antics or camp out on Copley lawn. Some kid did that last year, and it wasn't effective. I had to commend him for his persistence though. Hopefully, you won't be subjected to the nail-biting anxiety of the WL. Have a fun sr. year!
