I don’t wanna be that parent with my kid and super helicopter and bug the guidance counselor, but DS is applying early action to his two top schools and they’re due Nov 1. He’s filled out all his HS forms well in advance and gave everyone (guidance counselor and recc’d folks) the info with due dates back in late AUGUST.
We know that both of these schools tend to give out more merit aid & scholarships via Early Action and that is crucial to our family’s budget / ability to afford art school.
So DS has been filling in his final steps (& as art schools, there’s additional essays and portfolio/slideroom prep) and we’re both a little nervous that the school hasn’t uploaded his transcript and one of the letter of recc’d yet.
Is this normal or should I send an email reminding guidance counselor of the upcoming date in a week 1/2?
It depends on the school. A few are very strict about that date for everything. But many others have some slack for the HS’s components. Hard to know, although the website can give hints. I think I’d wait until a week before they are due, then have your son ask.
If your son’s school is like any average or better HS and has had plenty of kids apply to colleges in the past with EA/ED deadlines then I wouldn’t worry. They know the drill and will send the items before 11/1.
There is still time. If anything, I’d have your S handle it – he stop by the guidance office and ask when transcripts get uploaded for students who are applying to EA schools.
Thanks all - S sent an email (he’s out of school today and Friday on fieldtrip and college trip) and guidance counselor confirmed he’s on it and should all be done by early next week. Woot! One less thing to worry about!
