Guidance Counselor didn't submit school transcript in time for Nov 1 early decision and early action

Hello, My son’s guidance counselor didn’t submit school transcript in time for early decision to UPENN and early action to U MIchigan and Babson College. Is there anything we can do and will the early decision/early action be declined by school?

You should call the admissions office

My next call would be to the principal’s office

One of the schools said they will not accept his application as an early action

has it been submitted since Nov 1?
If SO, have your SON contact the admissions offices to let them know its on its way.
If NOT, you march down to the school and get in the face of the counselor. Make sure she/ he sends is while you are there watching. And then contact the principal.

Unfortunately colleges usually stay firm on their dates and are unwilling to compromise on dates. When did your son request that they be sent ?

he requested from school weeks or even months before, she kept on saying that she will get it done but she didn’t. Going into principal’s office will not do much good at this point? Anyone have any experience with colleges and their approach to accepting school transcripts later than the deadline if the child has submitted everything on time

It will hold her accountable . Are you applying to any other schools ? It may keep her on top of any future applications. My experiences with colleges and deadlines has been they hold firm to their deadlines. It’s very frustrating when your child has done his part and the school personnel drop the ball. I hope I’m wrong in your case.

I know UMich is pretty firm on their dates- is Penn okay with it? Because I am applying ED to Tufts and they were okay with a transcript that was a few days late. I also told my counselor a month ago that I would be ED-ing to Tufts, but when you have so many kids to juggle things happen. Tufts said as long as I had my app, writing supplement, and ACT w/writing score in by the deadline, they were okay with waiting a bit. Ask the privates if they could have the same kind of leeway, because it really isn’t your sons fault.

Babson is ok with it - just got off the phone with them. U Mich is not - however I will have his school principal write a letter which my son can attach to the appeal. Not sure about U Penn trying to get through to them. Unfortunately this counsellor didn’t send other kids transcripts either

I’m surprised by this. If the app met the Nov 1 deadline, often times supporting materials trickle in, like SAT/ACT scores, transcripts, LORs etc. My D applied ED last year to Cornell. The admissions office stated in an email to the applicant that they would notify the GC if anything was missing from the student’s file and gave until mid-November to get it all in. Luckily, our GC was on top of everything, but at least there was a grace period if needed.

I hope U Penn will accept it. Trying to get through to them.

UPenn should not be an issue as long as it gets sent now. From the above, I cannot tell whether it has been sent yet, and if not what is goiong to happen, is the guidance counselor ever going to get around to sending it?

Penn accepts supporting materials well into November and even accepts the Nov SAT test for ED.

Penn will accept them as long as the delay does not stretch out interminably. From past experience, Michigan is a stickler on the dates.

Is the guidance counselor submitting the transcript electronically? I’d find out the whole story there…is it possible the transcript wasn’t requested properly, in a timely manner, or wasn’t paid for?

We had a kid request a transcript and put down regular decision with a 2/1 due date. Office didn’t bother to send it yet (too busy getting out Early transcripts for Nov due dates) and then kid came in, crying, that transcript wasn’t sent and he missed early deadline. But he didn’t communicate that he changed his plans. Registrars/guidance offices aren’t mind readers…kids are responsible for submitting, making sure the info is correct, and follow up! Tough lesson to learn.

I think Michigan is one of the few that is really strict about this. Most others it is okay. I’d be in the principals’ office.

Thank you all. The GC uploaded it all today. I am going to principles office to have him personally call UMichigan
