Early Admission Group (EAG) for Foster?

What are the stats needed to get in? I probably don't have a good shot and might have to wait and apply as an Upper Division Admission Group (UAG) applicant.

Anyways I was just wondering. I am currently a freshman at UW. In high school I had a:

GPA: 3.98 UW
SAT: 630 Math, 540 Reading, 590 Writing (12 essay)

I tried the Engineering career path but decided I wasn't quick enough at higher level college math/science courses. I took Chem 142, Math 125, and Psych 101 and ended with a 2.60 GPA. Now I am taking Econ 200, Engl Comp linked with another class as well as Music 185. I am doing very well and enjoying all my classes so far. I got credit in high school for Math 124 so technically I can apply for Foster's EAG at the end of this quarter, but do I even have shot?

Thanks.

Realistically, no, because of your 2.6 first semester. Business is a 3.5+ major.

I think you’re okay, just not EAG caliber. Do well in your business pre-reqs and you’ll be fine. Chem 142 and Math 125 are not required for any business degree so you should be fine for the UAG. You can easily get your GPA pretty close or above 3.5 after only one quarter in the books.

There’s no harm in applying. Give it a shot!

Yes, I suggest you apply if you meet the requirements. If you get near perfect/perfect grades in your business pre-reqs and have a solid essay stating a good explanation of your setbacks/disadvantages (if you have any) you can be competitive.

Take some introductory business classes and you’ll find that they are incredibly easy compared to say, engineering pre-reqs. This is coming from personal experience as I am pursuing a Business/EE double degree. Accounting 215 with Frank Hodge is an easy 3.8-4.0 class if you even put in a bit of effort (great instructor by the way, you learn a lot!). Micro and macro economics are fairly easy as well, but it does depend on which instructor you get (I had a great TA). So far I am taking Accounting 225 with Widdison and it’s been a breeze as well.

My suggestion is to try for EAG, but don’t get your hopes too high. If you don’t get in, apply for UAG and you should get in for sure if you put in some effort!

Okay thanks. In Econ 200 I am taking it with a TA and even though I like this small class format next time should I take Econ 201 in a big lecture class with the rest of the freshman? In these TA classes it is filled with upperclassmen. Anyways, so far I got 100% on HW (10%), 90% on quizzes (15%, average in class is 80%) and there are 4 quizzes left (5% each and I can drop the lowest one), two midterms (30% each) and no final.

Personally I’ve had better experiences with the TAs than the large lectures. I remember my class was ~10% participation (includes HW) and 40% midterm, 50% final.
