mathsci1995- not many ‘total apps’ reported yet from what I’ve seen. Dartmouth & Duke reported in post 38. Columbia (total apps +5%) reported here:
[CC and SEAS applications rise 5% for class of 2017](<a href=“http://www.columbiaspectator.com/2013/01/11/cc-and-seas-applications-rise-5]CC ”>http://www.columbiaspectator.com/2013/01/11/cc-and-seas-applications-rise-5 )

You’ll notice that those 3 reporting total apps were also first out of the proverbial gate for reported ED numbers. I have noticed over the years that some of the more elite schools have prompt reporting as part of their PR strategy. Hence, since we haven’t seen any early numbers from Tufts or CMU yet (& don’t recall either being promptly forthcoming in past years), I’m not expecting their RD app stats out anytime soon. I expect Cornell will report sometime soon, but after a few more of the Ivies & elite nationals report.

Thanks for doing the number crunching, Papa Chicken!

Round-up article in Yale rag about Ivy early acceptance rates:
[Across Ivies, early admit rates plummet | Yale Daily News](<a href=“http://yaledailynews.com/blog/2013/01/14/across-ivies-early-admit-rates-plummet/]Across ”>Across Ivies, early admit rates plummet - Yale Daily News )

The title is a bit sensational, & of course Yale had the lowest early accept rate of the Ivies (thus reported). As the bar chart alludes, Columbia has not yet posted their Class of 2017 ED acceptance rate. For reference, Columbia’s prior year ED accept rate was ~20%.

Based on the last years’ releases, Columbia clings to the notions of “on a need to know basis” and … limited transparency.

One comment in the Yale story intimates the admit rate of Columbia was 17 percent.

some updates…

1st, curious that Williams ED reported numbers took such a leap between the two reports. 613 ED applicants in the 1/16/13 report (post 51) versus 584 ED apps in the 12/5/12 report (post 9). I have never noticed Williams being that far off in prior years.

Tufts +17% (although not explicitly stated, I suspect this stat is for ED1+ED2 combined given the timing of the release)

some interesting UVa stats
Total number of Early Action applications: 13,670
Total number of VA apps: 3,985
Total number of OOS apps: 9,685
*These are the numbers of completed applications. Some schools report incomplete apps in their numbers.

Overall offers: 3,841
Total VA offers: 1,695 (42.5% offer rate)
Total OOS offers: 2,146 (22% offer rate)
Enrollment goal: 3,475 (between EA and RD)
*Schools admit more students than the enrollment goal with yield in mind.Yield is how many students accept an offer of admission. Check out yield from past years, broken down by residency (these numbers are for the entire applicant pool, not just early action).

Overall defers: 3,454
Total VA defers: 1,001
Total OOS defers: 2,453
*Some applicants will withdraw, so these numbers will drop.

Middle 50% SAT score (offers only): 2030-2260
*We look at each section of the SAT, but the reports on averages generate totals.
97.8% of offers were in the top 10% of their high school class
*This number only reflects those who attend schools that report rank.

Early Action Scholar Invitations
1 in 20 early applicants to the College of Arts & Sciences invited into Echols Scholars Program
1 in 25 early applicants to the School of Engineering invited into Rodman Scholars Program
1 in 200 early applicants to the College of Arts & Sciences invited into College Science Scholars
*These numbers are a result of our review. We didn’t not start the year with these numbers in mind

Pure speculation on my part, but Williams could have made exceptions for applicants who might have issues with the severe weather.

I hadn’t noticed this 12/12/12 “final” Colgate ED1 report before…16.5% versus 20% reported by the 12/20/12 NYT. As the NYT was originally reported slightly after the Colgate ‘final’ and the 1/10/13 NYT update showed the same 20%, I guess we’ll stick with the NYT 20%.
[Colgate University News](<a href=“http://news.colgate.edu/2012/12/early-decision-applications-increase.html]Colgate ”>Early decision applications increase | Colgate University )

also of interest in this article is a report on increasing international applications. I’ve been seeing more on this trend from other school reports, in slight contrast to Williams’ recent experience.
Early Decision applications from international students also increased this year. Katryna A. Swartwout Ryan, Associate Dean of Admission, attributes much of the international application growth to a surging middle class in China.
