Hello all,

I ran across the "Early Connection Opportunity" on the URoc website and I'm interesting in participating in the program. The URoc website is a little confusing; it tells me that it won't cost me any room, board, or tuition, but it has a "cost" section in its explanation as well.

Can somebody explain to me how the ECO system works, what courses are offered, and if it is advantageous for me to take advantage of the program?

Thanks very much,
Golfdude

[Office of Minority Student Affairs : Early Connection Opportunity](http://www.rochester.edu/college/OMSA/ECO.html)

This is a transition to college program for minority and low income students. Some students must attend as a condition of their enrollment at UR. NYS residents who qualify under HEOP guidelines are given priority enrollment over everyone else.

There is no financial aid for the program. Students are expected to pay for the cost of program out of their summer employment contribution. Low income students will be offered the program at a reduced fee.

I think it’s beneficial for someone who doesn’t get in through HEOP participate in ECO program. I mean it’s a good transition from high school to college, it enables you to get used to a college environment.

The website says that there is no cost for the program. The summer earnings go toward the financial aid that the student received from Rochester for the school year.

I agree that ECO is beneficial for students, some of whom are required to attend the program, and others that are suggested for the program. If you have an opportunity to attend, I recommend it. It is a good way to get your footing before the fall semester begins.

MConklin, is there a list of classes offered at ECO? Or is it just a 4 credit thing for attending?

Currently I have summer classes (that I checked to make sure would transfer) lined up, so I’m not sure if I’d give up the opportunity I have at home yet.

Thanks!
