Early Decision Chances

Hey everyone! I have decided to apply to Brown early decision and would appreciate any chances. I currently self-evaluate my chances early to be like a 30% shot of getting in, is that about accurate?

Gender: Female
Race: White
Location: Northern California
GPA: 4.0/4.0 UW 4.7/5.0 W
Rank: Last time it was published 2/427, but there is weird complications with JC classes having extreme gpa inflations that haven’t been added yet for some other in the top 5, so my final rank will be somewhere between 1 and 5, probably around 3 or 4.
Took the most rigorous course load possible, I did not take AP US history or AP Spanish which are offered at my school solely because I could not fit them into my schedule without giving up some other AP class.
AP Scores:
Chemistry : 5
Biology: 5
Statistics: 5
English Language: 4
Current Classes:
AP Gov (econ in the spring)
Ceramics (nothing else to take)
AP Lit
AP Calc AB (bc is not offered, and without doing summer school the earliest you can take calculus in my school system is senior year)
AP Physics
Then I have a free sixth period, but at the local juinor college (which is a highly ranked juinor college) I am taking Spanish 3 ( I have already taken 3 years of spanish in high school but the prerequisites were such that they decided three years of high school spanish but you in spanish 3 at the JC) and will take spanish 4 (the highest level offereed) in the spring. I am also taking conversational chinese (chin50a) in the fall and will take chin50b in the spring (only chinese classes offered).

My parents went to ivy league colleges undergrad and grad, but neither ever went to Brown.

Extracurriculars:
I have down horseback riding since 3rd grade, and now own my own horse and spend 2-3 hours daily caring for her / riding for her, etc. I plan to sell my horse when I go to college, but the intercollegiate horseback riding competitions do not use personal horses, so I plan to join (or at least try out for) Brown’s horseback riding team, which is considered a varsity sport at Brown.

I am president of my high schools Key Club (community service). Last year I was secretary and was a member sophmore year. I have done over 150 hours of community service through Key Club, and when you combine com. service and admin. hours I devote at least 3-4 hours a week to Key Club.

This summer I had a three week program through John Hopkins Center for Talented Youth in Najing, China. I took a course in Advanced Game Theory which sparked my interest in Economics. We also took basic mandarin there which interested me in Chinese (which is why I’m taking it at the juinor college currently).

Other extracurriculurs include math club since sophmore year, science symposium since sophmore year, and assorted other clubs.

Prospective Majors: Economics, East Asain Studies (chinese), Mathematics, or Computer Science.

Testing Scores;
ACT: 33 Composite, 34 English, 36 Math, 33 Science and…27 Reading. Essay was 10.
SAT I (my kryptonite): 2030 total: 620R, 740M (missed 2), 670W E11
I plan to retake in October, I am fairly certain I will get 2100+ and I am frantically practicing shooting for a 2200+
SAT II’s: Math II: 800, Chemsitry: 780

...please?

You have pretty good chance...your stats are pretty high, provided that you do get a better SAT score. As for your EC's, the horsebackriding thing is something not many applicants might have done and would therfore give you an edge over other applicants.
However; you need to apply to some safties...with selective universites like Brown, you never know what can happen!

yeah I'm applying to a handful of ucs which ( otherthan cal and ucla ) and all pretty much safeties since I'm a California resident, I'll also be quarenteed admission to a uc since I'm in the top 4% of my class but I don't know which one yet.
I've been unsure on what role horseback riding will play in the admission process but unlike most schools brown considers it a varsity sport so perhaps they will weight more than others.

anyone else?

Returning your favor :)

Perfect GPA(really, it can't get better), Great test scores (I think a 33 in ACT puts you above their median range), and solid ECs (I see couple office positions and the horse riding does really look like it'd be appreciated by Brown)

It is a ridiculously competitive school but considering your credentials and the fact that your doing ED, I think the chances would be more closer to 50% than 30%.

Good luck!
