What's the difference between early decision and early decision II? I know that for many schools ED increases the chance of being accepted. Is it the same for ED II?

Also, is it not a good idea to apply ED when you need financial aid and you're an international student?

I'm thinking about using ED II if it's helpful for a school like Middlebury because it's a reach for me. However, I have not visited and need aid. Bad idea?

ED II is mainly (I believe) for kids who applied ED to a school, got rejected, and now what do apply ED to another school (hence ED II). Anyone can apply ED II, but lots of times it’s people who found out their ED or EA decisions, aren’t happy with them and want to increase their chances at another school.

EDII also can be for those who took the time to think through whether they wanted to commit to a school. IF that is the case, you should make that clear.

You can find the admissions statistics for most schools at their websites, broken down by applications and acceptances for EDI and EDII.

Highly selective schools generally want to see you have visited if you apply ED, since you are committing – and that makes sense for the student, too! Also, of course ED is a risk if you need aid, as you are promising you will go there. Look closely at Middlebury’s aid policy in this regard.
