Early Decision News?

So, I applied Early Decision One to Kenyon, and I know they mailed out acceptance letters on the 11th, but I haven't heard from them! I do live kind of far away (in CO) and it's only been like 2 or 3 days, but I'm really anxious, so has anyone on my side of the country received news?

My S is anxiously awaiting news too. Nothing in the mail in CA:((. I HATE HATE snail mail!!!

S accepted ED yesterday…Kenyon is his dream school, and by all intent and purposes a big reach…Kenyon really looks at fit above all else, that is loud and clear. Unbelievably generous aid package as well, I broke down in tears when I saw it. I have to say… Kenyon is one classy place. Love this college already and he hasn’t even started yet:)

That’s great to hear! Congratulations! UNfortunately my decision was defered until April, but I’m not exactly sure why. Would you mind sharing what your sons ACT and GPA were?

Sorry to hear about your deferral DG, but hopefully you will get good news in March. My S had 3.5 GPA, 2100 SAT scores. He had an intensive theater resume with some national awards. He was an outlier I am sure, but he was a great fit, had a really good interview, had great LOR’s, and sent in a theater supplement. They also wrote on his acceptance letter that his essay was outstanding… all of this probably tipped him into the acceptance pile.

Is there a way to change your application from Regular decision to Early Decision after you’ve submitted it? I submitted under regular and not being able to get a decision earlier is bothering me. Such a long time to wait.

I would give the admissions office a call and ask to be switched. Schools would rather have you apply early decision since it is binding so they know you will come if you get in. So I see no reason why they would let you switch to earl if it is before the early deadline.

You will need to submit the ED form. You will have to get it signed by your GC.

I am applying ED 2 too. ^_^

I was accepted friday, 13th of dec!!! Kenyon is my dream school. good luck to everyone else! here are my stats if they can help any of you: gpa 3.97, act: 28, APs 4 classes total. 5 on APUSH and a 4 of Eng Lang last year. A lot of extra curriculars and i really really really recommend that you interview!

I also think the interview is HUGE at Kenyon. My S happened to have a great interview. He said they ask pretty hard questions, and he said his interviewer was very impressed at how he answered the questions. Dreamergirl… is there anyway you can out to interview now if you haven’t already? It might help.

@5boys What questions did they ask your son? I was thinking of scheduling an interview but I’m scared I’ll mess it up somehow and hurt my chances.

I’m not sure of the exact questions she asked, but she said on her follow up letter," thanks for answering all of my hard questions so well". My S is very articulate, confident, and outgoing… he is a theater major, so makes sense. He also thinks well on his feet. If you feel that you aren’t confident in how you would do in an interview, I would skip it.

I really hope I get in. Kenyon has been one of my top choices for so long. I really, really want to attend! Unfortunately, the biggest impediment is that I need aid. I wish Kenyon had an endowment as big as Vassar’s. :(

Hey if we’re wishing for things might as well wish that Kenyon’s endowment was as big as Harvard’s lol

This thread is the bomb

I got deferred from ED I by Kenyon College but I was accepted ED II into Colgate University. Colgate is better ranked than Kenyon and Colgate seems to be a better school overall. Why do you think I was deferred?

There are many reasons why you could have been deferred.

Here are some possible reasons.

-they had an up number in ED apps so that meant they accepted less making it harder to get in to.

-to many others from your area or even school applied that had stronger apps then you.

-Kenyon didn’t think you would be able to handle the work.

-Kenyon wanted to wait and see your first semester grades.

-Kenyon didn’t think you stood out of the box enough.

I am sorry you didn’t get into Kenyon but at least you got into another great school that you like a lot!

Lol no, he got deferred because he needed international financial aid. Kenyon tends to look at the whole pool before making those decisions (I am applying ED 2 in spite of this.) That said, I would not say that Colgate is a better school than Kenyon. They have VERY different environments. Rankings do not say anything.

I applied ED II and the results were mailed today, but I don’t think I’m going to get them until Tuesday or so. Does anyone know if the results are released online as well???

The decisions were mailed yesterday, actually. Emails are only for international students. If you’re domestic, you’ll have to wait for the mail.
