Early Decision Notification

mail is different everywhere. since sunday is not a mail day, it has only taken a day longer. I have a good feeling! good luck!!

Accepted! I live in Illinois and I got the letter in the mail today.

Congratulations to all those accepted! You are lucky people to be able to go to Bowdoin next year. I hope to join you (I applied RD, but wanted to apply ED).

To those rejected/deferred… I’m sorry. The admissions game is so random. One year, you could be accepted with an early write, the next, flat out rejected. From what I’ve read, it’s as much of a chances game than anything if one is qualified to a certain point. Good luck, and don’t let this get you down!

I ran to the mailbox when I saw the mailman putting a big letter in there…it wasn’t from Bowdoin. I got deferred. :(

Any info on chance of acceptance and whether or not they consider that you applied ED as far as interest in the school? And will updates make a difference in my application?

I’m pretty sure that the ED will help you because they know that it’s your first choice. As for updates I’m unsure. Welcome to the deferred club gah. congrats ghostoverground!!

Deferred. Today was a tough day.

I love bowdoin so much, but should I cut my losses and apply ed II to wes?

i was thinking of ed2 to wes also…

wow, just saw your stats, can’t believe you got deferred!

i was considering ed2 to carleton… what a difficult choice I can’t make up my mind. If anyone wants to discuss pros and cons of ed2? message me.

hey dramaqueen -

dont apply ed2 to wes. not after the slaughter today. might i suggest another school, perhaps… nyuad?

(i think you know who this is)

Also deferred. Does anyone know the stats on how many are accepted/deferred/rejected? I would love to hear. I know six people who applied ED and of the six, only 1 was accepted. Four (including me) were deferred and one was rejected.

this is last years’ stats. although this year they had 568 applicants.

http://orient.bowdoin.edu/orient/article.php?date=2009-12-11&section=1&id=2

oh thanks dramaqueen, that’s sweet of you  … it seems that a lot of us were deferred

do you think you’re going to do wesleyan? I’m leaning towards going for it… though it’ll suck to have to give up on bowdoin altogether.

also, bmraotwtn, your caveat is regarding how many people got into wes ed I, or some other reason?

I think this Friday’s issue of The Orient will have the ED breakdown by decision type and total numbers. From what’s on CC and at S’s HS, where the three kids he knew who applied ED were deferred, it looks like a lot of deferrals this year. Based on last year’s experience, with more accepted students deciding to enroll than Bowdoin planned on and with the caliber/diversity of the group being what Bowdoin wanted, Admissions may be admitting fewer ED this year, keeping options open for RD. Just a thought. I’m not an expert and I don’t play one on TV.

I was deferred too! :frowning: now the college process drags on.

Does anyone know if we can contact the admissions office to find out what to do to improve our applications? I know some schools let you do that.

Accepted! Good luck to all those deferred. You still have a chance!

Hmm. I think I’ll call admissions tomorrow and ask them if I can apply EDII after being deferred. I mean, it can’t hurt to ask, right?

Also, as I think someone mentioned earlier, what can I do to improve my application while I wait?
