Early Decision with low GPA?

I really need my mid year report to show that I'm continuing to bring up my gpa. My ECs are outstanding and my test scores are above the mean for Wellesley but my gpa is barely a 3.5 wieghted. However, I've kept straight A's this year and will have great recs for my turnaround(currently a junior). Should I risk applying ED? Wellesley is absolutely my first choice and I want to make that clear.

I say do it. The upward trend will help you a bit, and you have nothing to lose by applying ED (unless you want to be able to use other schools’ financial aid offers to drive up Wellesley’s offer). They’ll have your decision for you before most application deadlines have passed, so if you don’t get into Wellesley, you’d be able to apply at many other excellent colleges.

Best of luck. :)

what is the average for SAT scores for Wellesley? I have a 4.4 GPA but am concerned about my SAT scores.

Are they known for looking at the whole candidate - and not just the SAT scores?

To any current Wellesley students: Whats the lowest high school GPA that you have heard of Wellesley accepting?

^ I really doubt current Wellesley students spend their days at school chatting about HS GPAs. :)

Yeah… I have no idea about high school GPAs. High school GPAs vary by school, state, courseload, so it’s really hard to say. Some schools have them out of 3.0, 3.5, 4.0. Others weight GPAs so you can have higher than a 4.0. And there are schools who operate on a 100-point scale, and there are probably more.

Bottom line: every school is different. Wellesley takes that into consideration when viewing your application. Don’t worry about your specific number. You tried your best/ took the courses you did, and now it’s all out of your hands. Relax.

Hi there! I was accepted ED this year, so I can try to answer your question. When I visited Wellesley last summer, the admissions officer said that the ED pool is their strongest and most competitive pool. So, if you’re absolutely sure that Wellesley is the school for you and all your EC’s and test scores are very strong, then you might be able to get away with a slightly lower GPA when you apply ED. But if you’re not sure, then I’d say you’re better off applying EE or regular.

Misswhite: in my experience, Wellesley looks at everything, not just the scores. Because I scored a 29 on my ACT and got in because I was strong in other areas.
