JSIMON: that’s why it’s a “state secret”…so here’s the story; my daughter was at Newhouse last year to see the Dean regarding a waiver for a class; she runs into another sophomore that she knows waiting to see the Dean…a kid in arts and sci…

Daughter: “what are you doing here?” “Are you trying to transfer?”

Friend: “No, I’m getting approval for the Newhouse minor”

Daughter: “Um, what Newhouse minor?”

Friend: “The one that is not published anywhere”

So, my daughter proceeds to her meeting and asks the Dean…confirms that there is a Newhouse communications minor (still didn’t interest her sister in applying to SU though haha)…but if she did, this was the route she would have went…

on another subject, has anyone heard from Human Ec ED?? (other than Sports management?)

Thats interesting re the Newhouse minor. I presume it wouldnt be an issue until after your freshman year, if you can’t otherwise transfer into Newhouse for your major. Thanks for the info.

My daughter’s college counselor said they notify in waves. My daughter was just admitted (yay), but her friend at another school who is an excellent student heard nothing. So sit tight.

Got into A&S for Psychology! But not my first choice of Newhouse so I don’t know if I want to go there, we’ll see! I’m waiting to hear back from UMiami for Communications major.

anyone receive a letter offering a spot at 2nd or 3rd choice but with the option of waiting till May 2011 to make a decision. I guess it’s early decision lite, meaning, we want you - but not at Newhouse, so we’re releasing you from the binding ED. Am I getting this right? I’m actually thrilled as it gives us more time to review the other schools D has applied too. Thoughts? Also, let’s not forget this is the holidays - so Merry Xmas to all - and God Bless.

^^letsgetthisdone: that’s the beauty of the SU ED application; if you get into your first choice school, great!! If not, you can still get an acceptance that’s not binding until May…that’s why I advise EVERYONE to put a viable second choice…

I couldn’t stand it any longer and actually called admissions this AM and they told me to not worry! I was also told we were in review and sent to committee and we should hear within a week or so.

Important Information for all you waiting on pins & needles (DIRECTLY FROM ADMISSIONS)

They do not decide in any particular order

It does not matter your major, school or location in the country

Just because other people you know found out does NOT have ANYTHING to do with your decision

They will make all their decisions before they leave for the holiday break (I believe their last day is the 22nd, but it could be the 23rd… don’t remember)

They do them in waves

They send you an email first and then notify by mail

NO emails go out before 5pm, so don’t bother checking your emails all day long

So sit back, relax and know that if you have not received an answer… your application is still pending.
and no… they do not send them out every Friday or every anything for that matter.

As my kids always tell me… they love “maybe” because it doesn’t necessarily mean no!

I know several people that heard from Cornell about ED on the 9th. Another friend of my heard back from Brown University yesterday. And I just got my Early Action decision from Georgetown today.
