Early Decision?

If I apply via Early Admission this fall, but am not awarded enough financial aid, can I withdraw my Early Admission application or am I still required to attend?

you can turn down the offer of admission if the financial aid is inadequate.

It’s early decision, not early admission. Do a search on CC. There was a thread started in December 2009 about this topic that had about 1500 posts, expressing every view possible. ED is not something novel to MHC but exists at most LACs. This topic comes up every season. Do some searching.

Do you have a link to that thread? I have yet to come across it.

Here’s a recent one:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/1076098-should-your-child-apply-early-decision.html?highlight=early+decision

This is the one I was thinking about, I believe:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/826733-decline-early-decision-acceptance-offer.html?highlight=early+decision

@butterfly510 Has your family contribution increased? how much ?

I believe our expected family contribution is from about $7,500 to $8,500 per year and since MHC is about $50,000 with tuition and room and board, being given a FA package worth only $30,000 would not work.

I really want to go to MHC (and apply via early decision), but if this is the case I will not be able to. I have also done some searching on CC and and coming to realize that ED is probably not the best bet for me, or anyone for whom FA is a significant factor.

I do think you should apply, though (regular decision).

My younger D applied to MH and, if I recall, the balance due would have been something like $9,500 after the financial aid offer. She ended up going to Smith, but she gave MH serious thought.
