Wow. I wish you the best! You obviously know what school you want to attend. What is your intended major? Why JHU?

Admission's Daniel, what's the earliest app you've ever gotten?

Thanks scorp! My intended major's neuroscience. I actually fell in love with JHU when I visited; my mom and I had the tour time confused, and we ended up getting a personal tour from a neuroscience master's student. I'm also very focused on research, and JHU is the place for that. I actually observe neurosurgery that's done by a neurosurgeon who did his undergrad at JHU, and he sold it to me even more. But most importantly, it just felt RIGHT when I visited.

Congratulations Ashlee...now just cross your fingers and count the days until December 15.

scorp - In the past we typically start to received applications in mid-August. Since we do not post the JHU application and supplement to the common application until this time, it is impossible to apply earlier.

This year, the day after we posted our application updates online, we had a number of submitted applications. These are not complete apps. since the high school's portion still needs to be sent.

Just last week though I fielded a question from a potential applicant for the Class of 2012, asking if he could use this year's 2007 application to apply for 2008. That's TOOOOOO early.

Am I allowed to send in part I of my application with the application fee first? Or do I have to turn in everything at the same time?

Does Johns Hopkins do the likely letters? I see a lot of ivys and top college sending applicants likely letters of their admission to the their school so i wanted to know if Johns Hopkins does.

byungjpark: Yes you may send in Part I and the app. fee first, and then the rest of the application before the deadline. Do know though that we prefer that students submit everything at the same time as it makes it much easier for our Operations team to process the materials.

hswrestling07: Yes Hopkins does send letters to students encouraging them to apply, but in no way should these be considered as anything more than a letter encouraging one to apply. These letters have nothing to do with a student's chances for admission, as there is no way for us to determine what a student's chances for admission are until we review their full application.

I also must say that I am not sure of many elite schools that send "likely letters" -- rather I think potential applicants are reading too much into these letters. Less competitive schools will send such letters, but I have never heard of the highly selective schools doing such.

What i meant by "likely letters" was do you send these letters after someone completed an application and turned it in. I've heard of ivy's and other schools that send out these letters to athletes or superior students telling them it they are likely to be admitted to ___ school before the actually date to receive the official letter stating the admission decisions.

No we do not send such "likely letters." We do on occassion communicate with applicants after they have submitted their applications and before the release of decisions, but we do not ever address the topic of one's chances for admission. Since decisions are not finalized until the envelopes are sealed and in the mail, this is not a practice we consider.
