Early Evaluation

Frustrating.

chopsticks3092, where did you apply SCEA?

Coquettish-
I applied to Harvard SCEA. and i'm still tryin'!! i think i've seen you hanging around on their boards too. Are you RD or also EA deferred?

what does SCEA mean?

californian, don't worry. i live in CA and other cali people have gotten notice so you should get it soon. good luck!

chopsticks3092, I applied to Harvard RD...but I seriously doubt I will get in. I have thought about the pros and cons of big research university versus small liberal arts college a lot recently and believe that even if I do get into HYP, I would much rather go to a top LAC. I know it's hard to believe that one would turn down HYP, but the education you get at a LAC is much more focused on undergraduates. Research universities gain their prestige because of their researchers...they conduct innovative research and publish in scholarly journals. However, these same researchers often are not good teachers. Sometimes, they cannot even speak English very well. :-( How is that conductive to a good education? I also applied to Yale EASC and was deferred...basically because I'm a loser...hahaha...oh well, I'm over it!

Hey, I applied to Yale SCEA too and was deferred...please don't call yourself a loser because that makes me one by extension! j/k, but seriously, Coquettish, you're cool.

You know, I also applied to Harvard RD, but I think I would be happier at an LAC. It's not so much for the reasons you outlined, but more because I'm not ready to compete with throngs of people on the other side of the country. Wellesley or Amherst would be less lonely and pressurized. Now I have no idea what I'm going to feel like tomorrow; I might be praying to get into Brown or something. 17 year-olds are way too fickle

Coquettish, a point about LAC's: you may often get to do research as even a underclassman at an LAC that you'd be S.O.L. about at a research university. My D was turned down by Yale and she now thinks it's one of the best things that may have ever happened to her.

hehe, tkm256, I guess that would make you one by deductive reasoning...but nah, I'm just kidding! ;-P The thing that got one kid in and the other deferred was probabaly ridiculous and uncontrollable on our part...legacy, URM status, etc. etc. etc. I guess I'm too normal in Yale's eyes, but maybe that's the way it ought to be! TheDad...that's a really great point. I would really like to conduct research for all four years and being at a LAC would facilitate that process.

Wow, Wellesley seems to be popular among Yale EA deferrals (I'm one too!)

Is anyone else still waiting for her EE letter?

I was going to PM each of you individually, but there are so many of you who got likelies! Congratulations to all of you!

If there are any questions or anything I can answer for you, let me know.

For those of you who didn't get the news you were looking for, rest assured that in a few years you'll hardly remember. I got a bunch of rejections that hurt a lot at the time, but I ended up in a really great place, and I'm sure you girls will too.

I am still waiting....

Hi!
I have not yet received my EE letter, and I am located in NYC! I'm starting to get worried!

elizabeth22, thanks for the help offer! Right now, I just want to jump on a plane and fly to Boston...check out Wellesley and my potential future classmates...and the Harvard/MIT parties! High school is useless now; I want to be in college!

For those that haven't received letters yet, hold tight! You will experience plenty of adrenaline when that envelope shows up in your mailbox! Good luck :-D

LIKELY!!!!! Oh wow! So excited my hands are shaking!

My D's LIKELY letter came today. We are very, very pleased and grateful.

I wish all of this forum's posters could have had this same thrill--but know that you will be admitted somewhere that is wonderful.

In terms of her stats, my D doesn't like me to post them. Suffice it to say that her strong points are her SATs, enrollment in an IB program, and a very good interview. Her grades are fine, but she typically got a B in something every semester. She has very interesting ECs/community service experience, but hasn't been included on a space mission or found the cure to cancer or anything. I am sure her recs were good. Her "Why Wellesely" was personal and very much in her own voice.

Wellesley is a top choice for her. Financially, it will be quite a reach for our family. Ultimately, we will have to see the extent to which other schools come through with merit aid.

Coquettish, muyloca, and tkm, I am also a Yale-SCEA-deferred-turned-Wellesley-EE-likely!

Yayyyyyy...represent! haha

i find myself finally letting my mind think about wellesley after my likely...and what do i think about? stuff like having to buy a shower caddy and decent pajamas and long underwear!!

Add me to the list of Yale deferees turned Wellesley likely!! It looks like the party has been moved to Wellesley, MA!! yayyy
