I’m an Out of State rising Freshman. I’m coming from about as far away as you can and still be from the Continental US. Is Early Fall Start a good idea? It seems kind of expensive with Tuition, housing, dining, etc. But also seems like a good idea just to get familiar with the campus/area and to accumulate whatever I may need from a dorm room perspective. Anyone planning on doing it or have done it in years past?
There’s one reason I’m not doing it- EFS ends September 14. So there’s an entire week between EFS and move in for fall, which makes no sense to me. I’m not gonna go home for a week just to move back in.
Also, since move in is 5/6 days before school starts, you have time to get used to the campus/city after move in instead of spending an extra 5 grand to do it in a few weeks.
what do the OOS state kids do that week? are they expected to find someplace to live during that time, or go home? Either sounds bizarre.
Take a look at pages 11 and 12 of this brochure about housing from the end of EFS to the start of Autumn Quarter:
you could stay in the dorms (just found that out. Thanks to the person above!) but I still feel like EFS is a waste of money unless you get it paid for completely. All the stuff that happens during EFS you can do during fall quarter.
As far as cost goes, if you are coming from out of state the cost per credit is less than you’re paying during the school year.
