HI! Daughter is graduating by a year early. So I’m not sure how to fill out the common app on her organizations and participation in events section. THis would typically be her 11th grade year, however, she is in her 12th grade year. So last year’s organizations were 10th grade, and this year would be labeled as…11th or 12th? I don’t want it to look like she was not involved in anything for a whole year. How should I proceed?
Would her school counselor be able to help her with this question?
My advice based on that my own daughter graduated high school early (at the end of junior year), as well as I am a professional independent counselor…
On the activity section, she should fill in grades 9, 10, and/or 11 and leave 12 blank. In the additional information section, she should be clear she is an early graduate and explain the reasoning for that. Her school counselor should also address her being an early graduate in their counselor report to colleges. On my daughter’s resume, she indicated at the top that she was an early graduate and so there were no grade 12 activities. Yes, her junior year was also her senior year. The college will thus see indicated in several places that your D is an early graduate, which explains why grade 12 is not filled in on any of her activities in the activity section of the app.
@soozievt plus won’t the college also see that there are only courses taken in grades 9, 10, 11?
As others said, your daughter should list everything as 9,10,11.
But, the most important point I want to make is that this is your daughter’s application, not yours. You can advise her, help her word things, etc., but she should be filling this out, not you. The way you have worded your post sends up red flags. If she is not capable of filling out her own application, maybe she isn’t ready for college. The question you should be asking at the end is “what should I advise her to do?”, not “how should I proceed?”
good grief. She IS filling it out. But I’m sitting with her for some of it and discussing the questions she has with her so I posted for her.
