im graduating a year early ^obviously, and i went to the Longhorn Saturday thing and i really want to go to UT. My class rank is 22/646 as of the end of my sophomore year. Do I use that transcript for applying? I also took 2 college classes over summer at a community college, do i send that transcript as well? Also, since those classes were taken outside of my high school do I apply as a transfer student?
sorry for all the questions im just super confused! Any info is appreciated:)

Why would you want to graduate high school early?

If you stay in high school, you can take college-level classes and get college credit in high school - for free (if you’re at a public school)

Plus, I’m not sure how well colleges look at early grads because of maturity levels and they look at how you will fit into to their school…

But I would call the admission office ASAP if you’re sure you know that’s what you want to do.

Best of luck!

I graduated early because im more mature than 99% of the previous graduating class. Also, I have already/will have alreadytaken every college class they offer by the end of next year. Furthermore, for graduating early the state of Texas gives you a scholarship. So the better question would be why not graduate early. I know of 2 people last year who graduated early and went to UT, so it is definitely possible to get in. I dont think they are going to say “oh she graduated early, lets not accept her application”. Im in the top 3% so they have to accept me.

“I graduated early because im more mature than 99% of the previous graduating class.”

I don’t mean to offend you or make fun of you, but that statement isn’t exactly mature. But anyway, good for you for graduating early. Good luck.

thanks…

(that sounds sarcastic but it wouldnt let me send that^ unless it had 10 characters) haha

** Im in the top 3% so they have to accept me. **

You may want to check on this. It was my understanding that because you are classified as a Junior, your rank as you posted it would be for your Junior Class. Your High School would have to move you to rank of Senior, integrate your rank into the Senior Class Rank, and come up with your true rank. If this was not done in the 6th quarter, it would be too late as the 6th quarter rank is the rank that UT will go by for auto admits.

In regard to the scholarship. You need to do your research (a skill that develops over time and a great reason to stay in High School…it is not just about being smart…it is about being able to think globally to apply the knowledge) That scholarship died this year in the budget cuts…

** We regret to inform you that funding for the Early High School Graduation Scholarship (EHS) Program will be discontinued beginning September 1, 2011. No one will receive EHS funds after August 31, 2011. **

I would never say do or don’t graduate early. It is such an indivdual choice. My daughter could have graduated early but stayed in High School for the solid four years. Six “years” of math, Six “years” of science under her belt and she feels extremely prepared for the Plan II program at UT. She is a mature and insightful writer and that has come with age.

You have to do what is right for you, but you can never go back. I suggest you not only discuss this with your GC, but with the department you are hoping to study under at UT. Just because you may qualify for auto admission, does not mean you get the program you want. I know for a fact that many programs look down on early graduates.

wow. Is it really necessary to be so rude? I don’t think so. For your information, I have talked to my guidance counselor and she said, along with all my other teachers, that I am more than enough prepared for college. I am currently taking 12 college hours and have a 4.0. Also, just because I was not aware that they got rid of the early graduation scholarship does not mean I do not know how to research. My GC told me about it at the end of last year after We worked out my graduation plan. I really hope the people at UT are a lot kinder.

Never in my message was I rude. I was just simply letting you know that you need to make sure you have all your ducks in a row if you continue on the path of early graduation. Volunteering at my daughter’s school, I have known three kids to graduate early and they were all placed in the College of Undergraduate Studies because they lacked many things that could be gained in a Senior year of High School. I feel confident that if your GC backs your plan, you more than likely will be fine, just understand even for the most confident graduating 18 year olds college can be a challange, not only academically but socially.

If you are have already completed two years of Higher Level Math (AP Cal AB, BC or Stats), Physics, AP or Dual Credit Chemistry and Biology, 4 solid one year courses in Social Sciences and 4 solid one year course in English and 2-3 years and continuing to Dual Credit at your High School or taking AP at your HS is no longer an option then you have no choice. But running to college just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

Yes, I have already taken every single Dual credit/AP class that my school offers…

Nobody is being rude here… if you can’t handle it, then maybe you aren’t ready for college. But if you really want to attend college early (or at all), you have to deal with hard facts and occasionally some criticism.

Also, CC probably isn’t the best place to ask about this kind of stuff. You should talk to someone at UT directly!

I did talk with them just now and they said I am good to go for admissions, I dont have to be put with the senior class.

Aly,

I saw on another thread that you have not nor will you have taken any Calc in HS. Does your High School not offer this course? I am just asking out of curiosity because I have never run across a Public Texas HS that didn’t offer some type of Calc course, AP or otherwise. Also another curiosity…what is your intended major at UT and are you looking at any of the honors programs? Hopefully you are still looking at SRD as a dorm because I think it is as close as you can get when it comes to a “home” like environment which would certainly help you make the transition.

CS

my counselor just informed me they dont offer AP stats anymore because the teacher left, So i am switching to calculus. I am looking into the business program and am not looking into the Honors program. I visited SRD last saturday and fell in love! haha so i will def be staying there

SRD will send the contracts out in late January. You need to make sure you Fedex yours in or even drive it in the next day if you live close enough. They were full within a few days of contacts going out this year. Just make sure you know you have to have to have your deposit at that time ($750.00) and if you are bringing a car an additional ($900.00) for parking.

Purely out of curiosity, does your username indicate that you were born in 1995?

@collegeshopping thanks for the info! i really appreciate it! I am debating on whether or not I should bring my car, what do you think?

@kkwa yes it does

You really don’t need a car. I feel like it’s a waste of around $800 for parking. Plus, you’ll probably end up driving people without cars… but that’s just my opinion!

Ya imost likely wont bring it, thanks for the opinion!:)

wow I feel old
