Early Notification deadline..

It says it's October 1st. Why is it earlier than those of other schools, which is on November 1st? Or am I reading something wrong? A lot of teachers/students i talk to find it hard to believe that the deadline is on October 1st. Am I being misinformed?!

1 October is the correct date.

I can’t tell you why they have it so early, but they make it easy for you, by not requiring recommendations or an official transcript. You can provide all by yourself everything needed for the application.

Thanks for clarifying.

Also, do you guys think I should send my ACT or SAT scores?

ACT: 30
SAT: 1930

I think those two scores (30 vs 1930) are pretty much equivalent so I don’t think it matters too much.

It doesn’t matter. GT will convert your ACT to SAT then take the higher of the two.

^^ matters. tech uses only english, math and english/essay scores, not the act composite. depending on your subscores, act may be better.

^^ Doesn’t matter. If you send both, Tech only considers the higher of the two. So why not send both?

You are both correct. Georgia Tech does not use the Science section or the composite. It uses each section score (besides science) and converts them into SAT scores for the corresponding section…

But you should still send all of your scores because they will mix all of your highest SECTION scores. You may have scored better on SAT math and ACT reading/writing. They will convert the ACt sections into SAT and make their own score. A few days after you submit your application, you can make a BuzzPort and all your scores will show up in the BuzzPort - including the sections of the ACT that are converted into SAT.

The reasons I know these are because I talked to admissions counselors this weekend about every question you just asked, and I have already seen my BuzzPort and the scores.

what, then, is the difference between applying Oct 1 vs. Nov 1.

The difference is that before October 1 is Early Action applications. After that is Regular Decision. For Early Action, you get admission decisions in mid November. If you apply after October 1, you get the decision in mid March.

thank you cshumate and everyone else

Those applying by Nov. 1 may hear if they are admitted in the middle of December, well ahead of the March date (which is for those applying by Jan. 15).

Any idea how they calculate the conversion of the ACT sections into SAT by sections(Eg:Math only or English only)? Are there any tables?I know there are conversion tables for the Composite score to SAT,Composite to Cr.Reading+Math.But what does a 30/31/32/33/34 Math or a 30/31/32/33/34 English convert into SAT??

The Nov. 1 deadline is for consideration for the President’s Scholarship. If you apply by then you are automatically applying for the scholarship as well.

As for the conversion, my ACT scores from February were translated into:
Test Score Test Date
ACT Combined English/Writing 28 Feb 01, 2010
ACT English 32 Feb 01, 2010
ACT Math 27 Feb 01, 2010
Converted ACT Eng/Writing 630 Feb 01, 2010
Converted ACT English 720 Feb 01, 2010
Converted ACT Math 620

Ugh I hate my math scores… They went up on the September ACT and I am hoping to get a much higher score for October…practices

As for how they do it - I’m not sure. At at an admissions session the officers mentioned that we could look at the concordance tables posted by collegeboard, but I guess they just made a table from that information and other sources.

Thanks,cshum.

I have a question…ACT English is different than ACT Reading, right? Or no? Why do they want ACT English AND ACT English/Writing?

ACT Reading and English are different. Reading is the reading comprehension and English includes grammar, rhetorical skills, etc.

I believe because the combined score translates better into the ‘writing’ section of the SAT.

I completed my early notification application today and I also sent my transcripts and recommendations by mail. The thing is that, I also put a Early Action Recommendation Form that is for juniors who want to skip senior class and get into GaTech. As I am a senior, this is useless, will this be a problem?

Georgia Tech doesn’t want recommendations or transcripts. They ask for transcripts after you get accepted. And yes, that form is also useless. You might as well take all of that out of the mail if it still hasn’t been picked up. (besides your application if you can do it by mail)
