I have already submitted my application for early notification, but I only had my “family / community” letter sent out 12/23 and my arts supplement sent out 12/22. I also requested an interview on 12/22. The reviewer for my area notified me by email that I could still submit my arts supplement, so I did. But I was not aware my community letter had not been sent out until 12/23.

It looks like my application has already been passed onto my second reviewer, so I assume my first reviewer did not get to review my application with the interview (yet to take place), my arts supplement, and my community letter.

What are the chances that my second reviewer is able to review my application with these credentials, and is it going to hurt me that the first reviewer did not view these credentials?

Good question. Your application still has to go through the Second Reader and the Committee Review phases, so your interview/rec letter/supplement will get noticed!

However, when anyone submits their application before their interview takes place, or before supplemental materials arrive, you run the risk of not having those items noticed by the First Reader.

This shouldn’t hurt you admissions chances at all. It’s always better to have an interview now instead of never!

TSocash, what does it mean when the application has been passed from the second reader (who was the local admission counselor) to a Senior second reader. It that a 3rd reader? Is that good or bad? Thanks in advance.

Once your application is complete, it will be read by a first reader. Then it is read by a second reader (a senior Admissions Counselor). After that, the application goes through the Committee Review process. Finally, the decision is finalized and the letter will be sent. It looks like your application is now with the second reader. This is normal, and there is nothing to worry about.

For Early Notification applicants, decisions will be released by February 15th.

For Regular Decision applicants, decisions will be released before April 1st.

For Early Decision II applicants, decisions will be released approximately 3 weeks after we receive the signed Early Decision Agreement form.

TSocash:
Are these dates for decisions same for combined medical programs too? I am assuming not because it involves interview. My status says “awaiting the committee’s final decision”. Is there a fixed date for BA/MD interviews or is it rolling? Thanks.

The finalists for the Combined-Admissions Programs, REMS, GRADE, GEAR, and REBS, will be notified in February by mail. At this time, no finalists have been selected. We are preparing to review these specific applications over the next three weeks.

Combined-Admissions Program notification will be separate from the standard admissions decision.

Early Notification is actually brand new this year.

EN applicants will receive their decision letters around February 15th. Applicants who live farther from Rochester, NY should expect a slightly longer delay.

What’re the chances EN decisions would come out earlier than that? (I ask because I just received my “address confirmation” email, which is usually code for “decisions soon.”)

All EN applicants should expect to receive their admissions decisions in the mail around February 15th. We say “around” because we know some students will hear sooner or later depending on how long it takes their letter to travel from Rochester to their local post office.

Regular Decision applicants can expect to receive their admission decision sometime in mid-March, and absolutely by April 1st.

Hi, Tsocash. I recently found out about the Renaissance Scholarship and would like a little more information. Could you elaborate on some general facts and dates concerning the scholarship.

The Renaissance Scholarship is a full-tuition scholarship awarded to the most exceptional applicants in the pool each year. (To tie this into the EN thread, yes, ED, EN, transfers and Regular Decision applicants will all be considered for the wide range of merit scholarships that the U of R offers - including this Renaissance Scholarship.)

Approximately 60 applicants will be notified in February that they are being considered for this illustrious scholarship, and they will have to come to the University of Rochester campus for the Renaissance interviewing event in March. Only 30 of these finalists will receive the scholarship.

Renaissance and Global Scholars (those who receive the scholarship) were identified by Admissions Counselors during the application review process. They are typically incredibly bright, they possess amazing talents, and they are committed to academic excellence. Most finalists possess remarkable “X-Factors” that are hard to overlook during our application review.

I hope that helps!

If anyone has anymore merit scholarship or Renaissance questions, please start a new discussion thread.

If you have any Early Notification-related questions/comments, post below!

Remember, not everyone will get a merit scholarship, but if you were awarded a merit scholarship it will arrive in the mail approximately 7 business days after you receive your admit letter. If you applied for need-based financial aid, that packet will arrive approximately 10 business days after you receive your admit letter.

Students who are at or above Rochester’s admitted student profile will be competitive for merit consideration. I say “competitive” because there is never a guarantee that you will receive a merit award. We take a holistic approach when nominating applicants for certain merit scholarships.

Yes, if you are a National Merit Finalist, and you select the University of Rochester as your #1 choice, you will be awarded the Wilder Scholarship worth $17,000 per year for all four years.

In order to keep any U of R merit scholarship, you must remain in “good academic standing”, which means you must keep your GPA above a 2.0 average.
