Early Orientation/Dorms/etc

Just a few questions -

What's the deal with checking in a week early for community service and what not... do you have to sign up for it?

When's the earliest you can check into your dorm? Is it the same for all dorms?

thequestionmark,

The official day for move in for all dorms is August 29, 2010. I only know this for sure for CAS students. If there is a different date for other schools, let others chime in with their info.

The only way for you to move in earlier as a Freshman is to participate in the Pre-Welcome week community service program called Project OutReach. This program starts on 8/25/10 (as I recall). You have to apply to the program and only 75 students are accepted into the program.

Sorry, my attempt to copy and paste the Project OutReach program info was not successful. Check the NYU University Life web page for more info.

[Project OutReach](http://www.nyu.edu/life/student-life/community-service/local-national-service/ProjectOutReach.html)

OK, this final attempt worked.

MAP can probably answer better, but check in will be Sunday August 29 the start of Welcome Week. In regard to time slots, i think it starts at 7:00 AM.

Move-In Day is the same for everyone, freshmen, transfers, Sternies, Steinhardts, etc. The only people who move in early (as far as I know) are Orientation Leaders, Welcome Week Leaders and RAs. Upperclassmen can volunteer to help move freshmen in, in exchange for being allowed to move in to their upperclassmen dorms early.

The doors to the dorms open EARLY, around 7, but as it gets closer to move-in day, I’ll probably make a “move-in FAQ” thread. I usually work the welcome booth at the welcoming picnic, I don’t work in the dorms.

MAP,

That Move-In FAQ sounds like a great idea! Looking forward to it and will direct sonny to the thread when it appears.

Just curious, do they stagger move in times (in other words, are students assigned a move in time?) or do all the students converge at once on the dorms? I’ve heard that parents pull up in front of the dorms and unload the car in front of move-in volunteers who have large bins. While parents go find a place to park, their son/daughter goes with the volunteer and the bin up to his/her dorm room. I’ve also heard that the street in front of Weinstein is closed off to regular traffic. Is this true? Any info. and/or suggestions would be most appreciated.

OHS,

Do a search for NYU Move-In Day. This recent thread might answer some of your questions. I don’t know how to cut and paste with the ipad so go to search on this page for the move in day thread.

Move-In Day is a free for all. No assigned times.

With any luck, it won’t rain!
