Early Success Program

S was accepted into the Early Success Program (ESP) at Clemson. We're very excited for him, as it sounds like just what he needs with study help and some oversight, plus he can't wait to go to summer school at CU. Anyone been through the program and have insight into it?

I have known quite a few kids who have been through this program. It is a great introduction to college life, although it does require that the student “sacrifice” part of their last summer at home before college. My niece was in that program, and is graduating in May (4 years - right on track). It should help the student with getting a couple of good grades under their belt, which helps in keeping the 3.0 required for lottery scholarship eligibility (if they are a SC resident). The kids in the program become a pretty tight knit group, from what I have heard. I’m not sure who is in charge of the program these days, it used to be Casey Berkshire and the kids really liked her. I may be looking at this option next year if my son is not accepted - and I would not hesitate to have him participate in this program. The only downside is the cost! FYI - I don’t think summer school is a whole lot of “fun” for the kids and they are kept under pretty tight reins, or at least thats how it was in the past. Clemson’s campus tends to be pretty dead during summer school.
