Early tension!Should it be Yale EA, Brown ED, Dartmouth, or Columbia?

Hi,I'm an International Student from India applying this year.I want to apply to Yale but I'm not sure if I'll get in..I come from a place where hardly anyone knows about the college admission process and what the stats of a Yale acceptee look like(Yes,after CC,I've looked at the acceptance threads, but that's it).I'd be very very grateful if you could tell me where I stand and if I'm just not made out for Yale, please suggest which school out of the ones I have mentioned would be better for me. I'd be happy to go to any of these schools.

SAT 1-Taken this October.I know I'll get atleast a 2100,I cannot say for certain anything beyond that. Also, please don't tell me you cannot accurately chance without it because that would be of no help to me.The above score is the minimum I can get.(My practice tests were in the range 2100-2260.I hope this helps).

SAT 2- Chem-750. Taking PCM in November.Expecting 750+ in all.

Class Rank- Our school ranks in a different way,but it's top 2-4/250 every year.

Senior Year Courseload- International Curriculum.I'll just say it's the toughest available(Physics, chem, math, english, eco).

EC's,etc.

School Type- Private.
Gender-Female obviously. No guy would have the name 'perfectpixie'!
Income Bracket-Low.Shall be requiring full fin. aid.
Hooks-Not a major hook,but...maybe the income bracket?And my mom's a single parent.

Thank you in advance! I repeat your help would be very much appreciated and is very much required!

Insane ECs!

I think you have a really nice chance at all of them. A 2100 on the SAT might be a bump on your app, though.

You have a very low chance.
Yale EA, Brown ED, Dartmouth, or Columbia
Yale- LOW SAT for an Indian, female applicant. (Your ECs aren’t so special either.; Table Tennis just screams Asian at me).
Brown- If you would have been domestic, then you would have greaet chances (well it still depends on your SAT, but I’d assume it is 2260) but you need FULL Fin. Aid. No chances here.
Dartmouth- is need blind, but still tough.
Columbia- No chance. You need a lot of fin. aid.

Dramatics -1 yr.; I would take this out, this is useless, esp. because you only did it for a year.

You would be a typical Indian girl with lackluster SAT who requires a lot of fin. aid, but has some unique activities (Bharatnatyam Dance, and debate team champ) but also very mundane ones (Interact Club, and Table Tennis).

Hope this Helped.

businessgrl- Thanks you for voicing your opinion. I wish you all the best for your colleges!

footskineater- You obviously do not know what you’re talking about.

Debate = Unique? Dude, that has got to be the most run of the mill EC ever. Bharatnatyam is also not very unique for an Indian applicant.

On the other hand my involvement in Table Tennis and Interact is more than a normal person. I wouldn’t call them “Mundane”.

Columbia- no chance because of FA? That has got to be the dumbest reason would have expected for rejection. If you don’t know already, C just got a $400,000 endowment from an alumni and all that money is going to be used for FA. I wouldn’t worry too much about that for the next few years.

Anybody else who actually knows what they are talking about willing to chance me?

^Interpret footskineater’s comments as you will, but he/she is correct in saying that because you are a full-need international, your chances of getting into those schools are significantly lowered. As such a candidate, you need to keep in mind that there is a good chance that the only places you will be getting money from are the lowest schools on your list, if you can get any money at all.

I think you have a good shot, especially at Brown (my cousin got in from overseas and you deff have at least good credentials as her, but hse did apply ED)

Bharatnatyam is also not very unique for an Indian applicant.
Do you notice the bitter, pungent irony here? Don’t you see the blatant hypocrisy?

If that is not very unique, then you do not have strong chances anyway, am I right so far?

You need money.
You NEED financial aid.

Columbia picks around ~25 brightest students of the World. You will be put in a different pool.

Do you really think your <2100-2260> will help you out?

Who are you? You are Indian female.
If you would have money, you would be a great candidate.

Your inherent problem lies in the financial basis.

Best,
and Good luck,

^^^Agree, OP needs stellar SATs to compete with the Internationals needing full financial aid.

Table tennis is really not seen as a demanding, athletic accomplishment here. Since it is not a “recruitable” sport, it becomes an average, pasttime EC.

idk which ivies offer need blind financial aid to international students but I recommend applying to those schools. as harsh as footskineater sounds, he is quite accurate with his predictions regarding financial aid
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1016635-chance-me-will-chance-you-back.html</a></p>

I would have to agree that Columbia is VERY stingy with financial aid, they give less than other schools with similar or lower endowments. That $400,000 grant you mentioned won’t even cover the full tuition+board of 2 students for 4 years.

I would suggest writing some amazing essays (you have good ECs to work with), getting 800’s on all your SAT 2s and hoping for a 2200+ SAT. You may have a decent-good shot at some of these schools (not Columbia though). The Yale EA pool is probably cut-throat competitive, I suggest Dartmouth since it’s need-blind to internationals.

It would be great if you/someone else could chance me back here, I’m in similar circumstances (and Indian) except I’m a domestic applicant haha
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1015336-chance-me-columbia-ed-please.html</a></p>

The “grant” you mentioned is $400 million, not $400,000.

i agree with perfect, foot has not idea what shes talking about. you have a great application and you have a great chance in all those schools. not just because of your scroes but your ec’s are really amazing. ivy league schools look less at scores and more at proactivity. i mean how many perfect students do they need? they want students who actually want to make a difference.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1018172-chance-me-ill-chance-back.html#post1065771553</a></p>

^^^^^^^^^^^
“ivy league schools look less at scores and more at proactivity”

!00% incorrect. Extremely high scores and GPA are a given- that’s what is expected. Then, outstanding ECs can set a candidate apart. Make no mistake about it- the schools you mentioned are all about high scores.

What other schools do you want to apply to?

Foot sounds harsh but I guess it’s the reality. Try Darthmouth?

What did I say?
I said she will be an AMAZING applicant if she would have had the MONEY.

She is INDIAN. She is FEMALE. She is OVERREPRESENTED.

Last year, a Mongolian kid with 2300+ 800*3+ 4.0+ National Debate champ got waitlisted. Why?
Didn’t have the cash.
