Congrats to all of you! When does it say Previews weekend is?

@gonzo14 - I’m just a boring, middle-class white girl myself. No idea how this happened :/

Previews is being held April 18-19

Congrats Neonthursday! You are one of the only ones who is not URM or Questbridge.

S received one today. Very excited. Nice letter. Not QB.

gonzo14 - I have to ask - what was your point in that comment?

I got one today in South Carolina. I was a QuestBridge finalist.

2011VAMom - no point - just a fact - many schools - Brown, Swartmore, Williams are know to send out early writes or likely letters to URM or QB. No big deal, but those who are not URM or QB shouldn’t expect anything. Maybe a few are squeaking in, but it looks like they may be from under represented states which are far. Therefore the need to plan for the preview weekend. Nothing against those getting in - congrats to all! Well done!
Why do you ask?

S received EW yesterday. Not URM, nor QB. We live in NY.

@ gonzo14 - thank you for the congratulations. Still, it is important to remember that people aren’t accepted (or accepted early) to colleges simply because they’re URM. I wish people would “get” that a little more, because there are a lot of students of every background who have been admitted and are justifiably happy about it.

My son just got an early acceptance package from Williams today; he received one from Amherst on Thursday, so it’s been a good week. ;)

I was a bit confused by the package because it was in a plain white envelope – I was expecting that purple background with the “chance 100%” line. I didn’t realize it was on the folder inside the envelope (unless Williams just ran out of specialty envelopes?)

LoremIpsum - what state are you located in?

Congrats to your son! Amherst and Williams - great choices to have. What are his other choices?

I love seeing all the good news on the posts. It makes all the work seem worthwhile. Congratulations again!

Illinois

Several of the HYPSM group, Rice, Northwestern, and a couple other LACs which are no longer serious considerations. He was also accepted at our flagship, UIUC, with a $15,000/year merit scholarship.

It looks like there will be some tough choices ahead between choosing a small and personal LAC vs. a bigger university with a broader class selection.

His counselor is pleased because he’s the first from his school to get accepted to either Amherst or Williams.

I received my big, purple folder yesterday! :')

I got mine today! I’m an ORM, but I’m from a severely underrepresented state (NV) and am Questbridge finalist.

If one has already attended Windows on Williams, would it be advisable to attend Previews weekend? Especially if confronted with the possibility of attending other preview weekends?

My son’s stats:
- ACT 36.0, PSAT 240 (SAT not taken), SAT II 800’s in Math II and Physics
- Class rank 1 in around 400
- AP Scholar with Distinction, took 8 AP tests sophomore year and got 5s in six of them
- Captain of Scholastic Bowl, senior peer leader on Math Team (there is no captain) who won competition ribbons in 6 of 6 outings and tutors his teammates in advanced strategies
- Peer tutor in all AP math and science subjects: stats, BC calc, physics (B and C), and chemistry; teacher’s assistant in AP Bio (class still in progress)
- no music or athletic ECs, just straight academic focus

These are pretty atypical stats, so if you didn’t get a likely/acceptance letter yet, don’t get bummed out and lose hope about gaining admission!

My daugher also attended WOW she really liked it. She attended DIVOH at Amherst and came back saying it was her #1 choice. We shall see…

D received today as well, we’re in Arizona.

Received today in CA. I was so happy! Not URM or Questbridge or athlete btw, if anyone’s wondering.

Same as quomodo!
