I plan to major in EEE at Columbia and I have studied a lot on the program. I also have looked at descriptions of each class that is offered. There is only one problem that I have and that is the student description and reactions to the program. So I was just wondering if anybody here was an EEE major or knew them and could tell me a few things such as who is the best professor, what was the best class, and how difficult the workload/major is. Any information on the 5 year Earth Resources Engineering Master program would also be helpful but I'll aim for this first.

I’m a EEE minor and know a handful of people majoring in the department.

Questions like the best professor and best class are sort of irrelevant tho. Most of the professors are good and 1 or 2 are exceptional but that’s true of almost every department in the university. The best class you will take will most likely be the one you find the most interesting and in the EEE department there are so many different courses it’s hard to know which one you will like the most (could be surface/colloid chem, aquatic chem, pollution controls, hydrology, etc, etc, etc)

All that being said, compared to other departments, the difficulty of the major isn’t that bad. I’d rank it as one of the easier majors in seas.

awesome, Thanks man.

I’m planning on majoring in EEE next year as well. I visited and met with Professor Upmanu Lall last August and he was undoubtedly the nicest professor I met from all my college visits. Dr. Lall even helped me tremendously through the admissions process- very approachable prof. I believe he does a lot work in climate/water systems analysis. Excited to work with him next year!

Yeah Lall is fantastic, kids really like him, one of my best friends works for him and she loves working with him. He does good work and treats people well.
