I was wondering, with my stats (below), do I have a decent shot at Cooper Union now that there is only half tuition for Undergraduates?

First of all, I really doubt that the number of applicants is going to change much this year, if at all. All of the attention that the school is getting because of their tuition situation might have even led a number of students to consider applying who originally wouldn’t have, therefore increasing the number of applicants, but I can’t be sure of that and I really don’t know what I’m talking about, either. Even with a tuition of $20,000/year, that’s still going to be significantly cheaper than other top art schools such as RISD or SAIC, so I don’t think that the tuition charge is going to keep many people from applying.

But to answer your question, I guess that it really just depends on the school within Cooper that you’re looking to apply to.

For Engineering, I bet you’ll get in. You have some really great stats.

For Art or Architecture, merit stats aren’t going to matter as much. It really just comes down to your performance on the home test (and your portfolio if you’re applying to the school of art).

But, everything I’m saying right now has simply been told to me by other people. So you never know, I could be wrong.

I just applied two days ago to the school of Architecture. Who knows, maybe we’ll both be freshman at Cooper next year.

Cooper isn’t going to get any easier to get into with this whole half tuition thing. It will still keep its standards if not push them even harder. There is rumor of an engineering home test being constructed which would make things very exciting.
