Easier to transfer to East coast private from east coast private?

Hi all, Im an incoming undergrad freshman at UCLA. A certain friend of mine choose Vanderbilt over UCLA cause he believed that it is easier to transfer to schools like Yale, UPenn and UChicago from a semi-east coast college like Vandy. Now i would not be writing this thread if he weren't bashing on UCLA. So my question is: is it true that it is easier to transfer to a east coast private to a east coast private? Or do I have as much of a shot as my friend?

Thanks in advance

You have as much of a shot as your friend.

First, your friend is wrong about the location or public/private making a difference, these schools are looking for exceptional, interesting students, period.

Second, you could conceivably have a better reason for wanting to transfer since UCLA is a large public and Vandy is a mid-sized private much like the schools you listed.

Third, give UCLA a chance, don’t go in this fall thinking that you want to transfer. While I have a D that transferred and I believe that transferring is a viable option, I would only recommend it if things are really not working out at your current school. There are many difficult intangibles that you don’t necessarily realize until you go through the process.

Thank you guys. I’m not even considering transferring. I love everything about my school.

^Glad to hear it :)!
