I'm planning on taking English R1A to fulfill the first part of my College of Engineering R&C requirement, but I've heard that that course is rather tough and all the spots fill up quickly. So, I'm considering other courses now. What would you guys say are the easiest courses to fulfill the first part of the College of Engineering R&C requirement? Here's the list of possible courses:

African American Studies R1A
Asian American Studies R2A
Celtic Studies R1A
Chicano Studies R1A
Comparative Literature R1A
Comparative Literature H1A
Comparative Literature R2A
Comparative Literature R3A
Comparative Literature N1A

Film Studies R1A
French R1A
German R5A
Italian R5A

South and Southeast Asian Studies R5A
South Asian R5A
Theater R1A

From my personal experience and that of my friends German R&C courses are typically easy. One of my engineering friends had Banwell for German R5A and thought it was quite easy.

Personally German R5B with Brett was the easiest class ever. I went to class and did the crossword and Sudoku everyday while other people surfed the net or fell asleep. Total BS essays were "A' grade essays for most people. It's too bad he won't be teaching R&C anymore.

from what i hear, pretty much all of the courses EXCEPT English are pretty easy, as the professors aren't english major/professors and thus tend to have easier grading

I took Slavic R5A.
Well, I don't know what you mean by hard reading but I can tell you it was somewhat boring. Otherwise I think the grading is easy (that's very personal opinion, since I haven't taken any other writing course in US - I am international student. And as such I was not so great with English and I generally am not a good writer either). I got B+ which, according to me is too much for me.

What do you mean by B+ is too much for you? You mean it's a good grade?
English is also my second language btw.
What I mean by hard is like, the books are very hard to understand. I showed some of my Russian friends the required reading and he told me that the books are not that easy for a college freshman to understand. I already ordered these copies from Amazon anyways, and will take a look before my phase II appointment. I haven't signed up for that class yet but I am assuming that not many people would want it because it has very bad time (8-9 am MWF)

I don't consider myself as a good writer. I didn't expect B+. So that's why i think it's an easy class. I didn't even read one of the books, because it was very boring, I stopped on the 13th page and then read an online summary. I didn't feel like I did not understand the books, though I am not sure how much I did. In any case, there are in-class discussion which will help you understand the books. And what matters in these classes is whether you can write or not, unless you really want to learn anything from this class.

South Asian R5A seems to require one hour of discussion every week, doesn't it? I really don't want to find room for another hour of discussion, so South Asian R5A doesn't seem like the way to go.

Right now I'm looking at German R5A. The only teacher that will conveniently fill my schedule is YAMINI-HAMEDANI, but this professor isn't on ratemyprofessors.com. Any impressions of YAMINI-HAMEDANI? I'd take Banwell, but then I'd have to wake up at before 10:00 a.m. MWF and I'd have 5 hours of class in a row.

Any other suggestions? German seems to stand out the most, but what about the many others on that list?

Sorry this is a little bit off topic but I didn't want to make a new thread.

Telebears wont allow me to sign up for any R&C class besides college writing R1A, even though I had passed Analytical Writing Placement exam essay. From the letter, "You are now eligible to enroll in freshman composition and other courses for which satisfaction of the Entry Level Writing Requirement is a prerequisite." Anyone know how I should get about this?
