Anyone know some majors at Dartmouth with classes that are easy to get an A in?

ask the registrar

It is easiest to get an A in a subject that you have a genuine interest in.

Dartmouth publishes the median grade for every course on it's web site. You can have a look but no department stands out as being easier than others, probably because by the time you hit college you go with your strengths.

generally courses in various ethnic studies departments seem to have the highest GPA. i remember seeing a list of depts. by median GPA, and DAMELL had the highest.
But siliconvalleymom hit it on the head. I took a lot of "easy" classes, and those were my worst grades, consistently. And the classes that interested me were the ones I did the best in, regardless of the median.

Is the high GPA in ethnic studies due to people's tendency to study their own cultures?

Median grades can be misleading.

Agreed. One prime example is intro Computer Science. COSC 005 has a median of A or A-, but it is a ridiculous amount of work. The reason the grades are so high is that if you simply complete all your work (as in, write the necessary programs for homework/projects), then you will get an A. The high median is misleading if you are looking for a class that will be easy.

An even more obvious example:

Term CRSE ENR MED
08F MATH00301 205 B
08F MATH02301 21 A

Right, and that's because the intro course is a "weeding out" class while the upper-level math classes are full of math majors.

There is a difference between a class that is "easy" by light workload vs. one that is "easy" by how it is graded. That concept seems to be lost in this discussion.

Also, it kind of seems ridiculous that any class would have a median grade of 'A'.

Perhaps you should post that statement on the Harvard and Stanford boards and see what kinda reaction your get. :D

hopefully this goes without saying, and i'm sure you aren't doing this, but someone shouldn't be applying to dartmouth if you are looking for the easiest way through

:)
