East Coast -> West Coast

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post!

I was wondering if any east coast kids decided to go to the west coast (specifically California) for college, and how is/was that experience? How did you guys deal being so far away from home? Was it a tough experience? How did you manage - is it really hard to make friends, etc.? Thanks for sharing your experiences...I'm a kid that has never been far from home at all. Was going to college far away be a negative experience or postive experience for you?

I would love to hear this as well! especially NY to LA

exact question and answer there

Having lived my entire life in the bustling Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C, I am very pleased here in California. The weather (at least in LA) is so much better in my mind. Today it was 65 here and 35 back at home. :D
It took me a couple of days to adjust, but I eventually made many new friends. I don't know how it is at close-knit schools where a majority of the people are from one locality, but at my school almost everyone was looking to make new friends. As for your old HS friends, I'm still in touch with some of them through IM and Facebook. I've already been making plans with them for what to do during winter break, so we can all get caught up with our lives and such. But then there are others I haven't spoken with for some time, but I really have gotten over that. At the beginning of the semester, I had been talking with my parents by phone almost everyday, but that frequency has now dropped to twice a week. If there is one bad thing about going away, it's that I couldn't bring my car here and I certainly know I'm not going to get one here. Fortunately, my workaround to this is having a few friends here with cars.

To sum up, going away has been a very positive experience on my life. I'm sure you will enjoy it too.
