i have to take micro this year so i signed up for it with Bronars. I read some reviews about him and they all say he's a smart guy but a terrible/very easy professor. Does anyone have an experience with him? I'm not interested in really learning in this class, I just want to get the credit out of the way and to do so the easiest way possible.

He resigned like a couple days ago. I signed up to take eco 420K with him and they sent us all out an email saying he resigned so your going to have to pick a new teacher.

p.s. stay away from wiseman…i had him and he’s a good professor when it comes to teaching the concepts but his tests were impossible

Agreed ^ don’t take Wiseman. You could feel totally prepared to take his tests and you end up making a 60 or lower. If possible, take it over the summer.

I have Bronars for 420K too. I didn’t get the email about it. Crap. I hope they keep they replace him. He was the only one available at the time. Could you post the rest of the email? Did it say more or just that?

If you need the credit and truly are not concerned with learning much of anything, might I suggest the online course at ACC with Croxdale? It is entirely online other than the final, online tests you can take up to three times each and plenty of extra credit available. I wish I hadn’t done it now since I didn’t learn anything but it sounds like it might be good for your situation.

Omg ^ I’ve heard bad things about Wiseman, Hamermesh, AND Hickenbottom. You think being in an honors section of Wiseman’s ECO 304K class would help?

Here’s the deal about Microeconomics. It is tough no matter who you take it with, however, some classes are more manageable than others. If Microecon is the only class you need, take it online, at a community college, or wait till the Spring and try taking it with Stephen Trejo (Who iirc teaches it only during the Spring)

DO NOT TAKE ECON WITH Dr. Hamermesh! Heed my warning!

Hickenbottom is great. His voice can be a little annoying, but the class is set up well.

His lecture is basically word for word and example for example from the textbook. His homework assignments follow the examples closely, they are very much the same. The test problems are just like the homework assignments, which are gone over in detail in class and handed back before the test. Therefore, if you pay attention, the examples you learn are very much like the exams. This is what is so good about hickenbottom, his tests are just like the problems he’s practiced with you, that is what a lot of other teachers are missing.

I never even used my textbook, since he basically read it to us in class, and I did the homework with no problem. I never went to office hours or got any supplemental instruction, or did anything else but that homework, and I got an easy A by a longshot in the class. It was simple. You just have to really listen in class and pay attention, and that saves you a boatload of work otherwise. Don’t sit near friends, and try to concentrate for the 35-40 minutes he actually lectures. If you do, you’re golden.

Wow, Bronars resigning?!?

I have orientation on the 29th and I was really bummed to see that his class was already waitlisted. I really need an A to transfer to McCombs.

Why Two Kay, thanks for the amazing review. So basically, if I go to class and take notes, I will be okay with Hickenbottom?

And has anyone had experience with Sibley? I’ve heard torn reviews.

Erm…resigned? You sure??? I never got the email and I emailed the economics department a few days ago about his class and what books to use for Eco 304k and they never…mentioned anything about it? In fact they gave me his email to contact him. o.o And wouldn’t they have taken his name off of the classes in the registrar?

this is what the email said:

Dear Students,

If you are registered for any undergraduate Economics classes in the Fall with Dr. Bronars, please read this email! Unfortunately, Dr. Bronars has turned in his resignation to the University. He will no longer be teaching in the department. His 2 sections of ECO 420K will BE CANCELLED. However, the department just added 2 new sections with Dr. Slesnick. We will give students that were in Dr. Bronars section first shot at this class. If you have an interest in Dr. Slesnick’s section(s) of 420K, please let us know as soon as possible.

Dr. Hickenbottom will take over teaching his ECO 304K section.

Dr. Chiburis will take over teaching his ECO 341K section.

If you have have any issues as a result of these changes, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

I received that same email 2 days ago. It’s true.

Crap. Why am I not getting these emails too? Any idea about when these new sections will open? The listing has Slesnick for 4 sections now but all are filled. Did I already miss the new ones? I don’t remember what he had before.

Are you an economics major Fiyero? I know that economics majors are on Kerry Pasquale’s mailing list. If anyone wants, I can forward them the email so they can see the UT email address for themselves - if anyone is still in doubt that is.

I emailed Kerry already. I looked it up on the directory. Thanks though. I’m supposed to be double majoring with economics but I’m not listed on the directory that way yet. Maybe that is why I’m not on the mailing lists yet. I just don’t want to end up in Mathevet’s class with its 10% A’s.

A note to anyone who is concerned about grades in Microecon. Econ classes follow a curve meaning that professors can only give out a limited number of As, Bs, Cs, etc. I know the curve is around 15% As, 20% Bs, with a large majority of Cs and Ds give or take, also includes plus/minus (meaning 15% will get A, A-). Not sure if this is standard but I think it is.

Oops nevermind you were right. I emailed asking about Bronars and they were like “Oops we forgot to tell you!” =.=

he resigned? i have yet to get an email as well! I need to have credit for micro, macro, cal I, and cal II in order to transfer into mccombs. i already have cal I, i’m taking cal II and macro during the summer (hcc only allows two classes at a time), so all i need is micro. do you guys suggest I just wait until the spring semester to take it? Or could I take micro during the school year online? How would I go about doing that? All the other professors seem impossible…!

I’m in honors so I could take the honors session with wiseman, but that seems difficult as well

also, is Hickenbottom bearable? i’m in 304K right now and apparently he’s taking over.

Yes Hickenbottom is a good teacher, see my post in the middle of page 1.
